Been getting into UI design recently, I don’t have an extensive knowledge on scripting but I’ve been learning Tweens and such so that I can offer more with my UI. The game link below and GIF’s are the second set I’ve made and am looking for some criticisms as to where I can improve and possible an evaluation on the work. Take note this is still a prototype and I am yet to add the game teleport functionality along with some tweens for the panel that appears when you hover and a loading sequence. There are sound effects and such in the actual game if you’d like to check that out.
Like I mentioned some critique and advice as to where I can improve would be greatly appreciated and if you have any questions I’m more than happy to answer them.
It is amazing that your UI looks this stylish considering that you have only started recently! I suggest, for the menu on the first GIF, that you add some transitions for the hover. Right now, the functionality works, but a nice fade-in effect would be awesome. For this, you can use the TweenService and tween the Transparency properties of the objects.
Also, assuming that this is a space-related sci-fi game, you can have the background be an image of some planets. And when a player hovers over the planets, it would display the information that it does right now. I think that it would be great if you can add that in, however, I know that this is some early experience for you in UI, so I understand that this may be a lot of work. But, the rewards are worth it!
Additionally, still assuming that this is sci-fi, you can have a constant ambient music playing instead of the piano music right now (or some other instrument, I am terrible at this subject) - such as some eerie soundtrack that goes with the cliché belief of what space would sound like (deep, constant, humming).
As a minor suggestion, you should center the description of the object that pops up when hovering over the words in the first GIF (the biggest, gray object with the text in it).
What I really like currently:
the spinning wheel at the bottom-left
the color palette
sound effects (such as when hovering over the objects in the first GIF) - they’re pretty satisfying
Overall, your UI is very professional and relevant to the genre of the game. The feedback I suggested is just some tweaks to the “look” aspect of the interface, but the functionality is all good. As I said, I am very impressed with your work even though you just starting with UI.
Yeah I’m not finished Tweening those game pannels, my idea for it is to have them open from both sides and close the same way in reverse hence the paper sound effect. Kinda like a scroll.
The planet idea is in the works Screenshot by Lightshot - Though was intended to be a seperate game with the Galactic Map pannel.
And yeah most of the criticism I got from friends was the audio rather than the actual design so it’s something I’ll consider for definite.
Also going to fiddle with the text and positioning so thanks for the feedback
Any idea on the value of this type of work though?
It looks good but I don’t really like how you have to hover to view the details. I feel like you should provide the photo without hovering then when they hover, they’ll see more details.
Looks good, a bit plain and out of date (For roblox at least). Also second video, where you’re displaying some sort of effect when choosing between menu buttons, a bit slow. Not a fan of the style in general but I can appreciate the time and effort you put into this! You’ve clearly worked hard to be where you are! Good luck in the future.
