Unable to use app on older devices

I saw this hovering around on the ROBLOX forums earlier in the bugs area, a person with the iPod touch 4G can’t download the latest version of the app (you need iOS 7 at least)

The problem? The latest iOS for iPod 4G is iOS 6. This is a problem ROBLOX will start facing when you ‘force’ updates. Do you see facebook, twitter or other games ‘forcing’ you to update? It’s extremely bad practice to force users to update on mobile devices.

Now the iPod touch 4G can’t play ROBLOX games but the user that reported it said

As time goes forward a few years (I’m talking about 3-4) there’s going to be for scenario iOS 11 which won’t support iPad 2, iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad 3 and this issue is going to increase if updates on iOS devices isn’t ‘forced’ which renders the app useless. Some people won’t be able to afford the ‘latest’ iPad every single year for those who’s household doesn’t make much. This can hurt your mobile player base :frowning:

Honestly I think that this is something that they had to do to push out all those features that they pushed out the last couple of months. On a certain time you need to have more specs to actually render ROBLOX correctly, so the fact that they ask for a better iOS with more features that they can use, is not a weird call. If you are playing on mobile, you will need to update at a certain time.

The iPod 4G is almost 5 years old now and It’s not really Roblox who’s dropped support, but Apple when they stopped pushing updates to it’s OS.

They could always change it to be something like ‘To play games on the ROBLOX app you need to have the latest version of the app’ with an okay button. The guy suggested that, it would be easier for people to check their messages, catalogue etc via the app and of course buy BC with an iTunes balance.

I can go through loads of apps on my iPad which most are out of date and don’t prevent me from using it just because it’s an older version of the app. I don’t see why ROBLOX should be the odd one out and kill all access to the app if you’re not using the latest version.

When the ROBLOX app first came out they said the iPod touch 4G would be supported but you wouldn’t be able to play games in the app. People were okay with this and used the app to check catalogue, messages and other various bits and bobs with ease. They knew it would render on an iPod touch 4G but they still allowed use of the app (just minus the function to play games)

Update: People aren’t stupid, they are getting around it somehow
