Physics are not within my field of expertise! I'm most proficient with things that your users cannot see but always interact with, such as data stores and teams.

Background

This section contains relevant information about myself and my career on the platform.

Read: About myself

Hello there! I'm Raul. I'm an italian high school student who's currently studying to become a software engineer. Even though I've been programming on Roblox since 2019, I'm certain that there's always room for improvement!

Read: Platform & learning timeline

I was first introduced to Roblox as a guest in 2014, and in 2016 I decided to sign up with my own account. I did not jump into Studio until mid 2018, when I had developed some interest towards the work behind all the experiences I loved. Even though I wasn't quite looking into scripts yet, inserting assets from the toolbox was enough to get myself used to Studio's various features.

Just a year later, I started figuring out how Luau's syntax worked. I started out by pasting code snippets and building upon other people's work, but soon enough I began understanding more about programming thanks to the multitude of resources that I had available -- namely the Developer Forum, PiL, and Stack Overflow.

Once I had finally mastered the basics of Luau, I started looking for a stable position as a developer. I initially did not charge for my services, but I gradually increased my prices as I gained confidence in my work.

Knowledge

This section contains information concerning my proficiencies and overall familiarity with the various aspects of Roblox development.

View

Programming
Level: Advanced
My main field of expertise when it comes to Roblox development. I've been using Luau for the past few years, but I also consider myself proficient with other languages such as JavaScript. I believe there's still room for improvement, but this doesn't keep me from delivering high quality work.

Graphics Design
Level: Novice
Although I've been making logos for my own groups for quite a few years now, I still consider myself a starter because I'm usually slow at coming up with designs that work. I still have a long way to go before I can open up graphics design commissions to the public.

Building
Level: Intermediate
Ever since I started focusing on the programming side of Roblox development, I've gotten out of touch with building. I still consider myself an average quality builder, although I usually only build from reference.

Showcase

This section contains examples of my past work.

View: Experience contributions

New York Police Department

Experience: NYPD Academy
I've been working on the Academy alongside its development team since November 2021. After programming the first major update, I started replacing the old unrealiable systems that had been left over by former developers, significantly improving their performance and reducing overall server latency.

Foxtrot Medical Institute

Experience: (taken down)
I've dedicated a few months to this group's development in 2020. When I was appointed Head Engineer, I was the only member of the team. I didn't make most of the assets there, but I tweaked a fair bit of already existing scripts and replaced some outdated systems which the group had been relying on for over a year. Unfortunately, the place which I've contributed to has now been taken down and only unofficial copies exist. Another semi-official version still exists under a backup group, but it's really outdated and may not be suitable for a showcase.

Render FPS counter

This GUI enables players to receive more detailed data on their client performance than they would with other Roblox debugging menus. It's purposely designed after the performance stats overlay that can be toggled using Ctrl + Shift + F7.

Keybind-activated door system

Originally created for an old group of mine, this interaction system allows players to open a door with visual feebdack via a designated keybind. The door animation is only shown to players who are within a certain radius in order to improve client performance.

Personal Projects

This section contains a list of the personal projects that I'm currently working on or have worked on before.

Current

  • A module to interact with the Discord API directly from a Roblox experience, useful to display events and invite data. It has currently achieved semi-full coverage (cannot append form data to requests) of the Discord REST API.

  • A handful of modules (array & string methods, event emitters) to facilitate object oriented programming with Luau using Node-esque methods.

Past

  • No major projects.

Collaborations

This section contains a list of my current and past collaborations with other groups and experience developers on the platform.
