Unique Obby - Help and advice

Hello everyone! :cowboy_hat_face:

Are you a bit tired and running out of ideas for obbies? Try use the following information to help you!

Now we all love a good Obby to test both our,

  • Skills

  • And IQ

But as years have progressed from 2008-2021 we’ve adapted & applied new and more fun unique ideas into our own Obbies!

Some helpful tips I can offer for users wishing to create their own very Obby includes,

1. Make sure you have a great title for your Obby

2. Know the basics of Roblox Studio

3. Have someone else to help you

4. Create some sort of game product, via Developer Products or Gamepasses. For example common ideas are, Speed Coil, Gravity Coil and Boom Box. It’s important that you can create your own custom item to give it that UNIQUE feeling.

5. Know to script a tad bit in order to produce checkpoints, badges, and gamepasses / developer products.

6. Have a catchy title!

7. Make it look attractive.

8. Give it a theme

9. Try use different approaches rather than just blocks. Try terrain or blender.

10. Make it fun for the specific age group you plan on making the Obby for.

For example, Myself and Coder_Tom (My scripter and friend) have created an game, using 10 of the tips I’ve mentioned above. It uses terrain blocks to act as “water blocks” which users can jump on / use as a replacement for blocks.

Check it out some time and give use some feedback in the comments below! (It’s very new)

Please use detail and describe some issues you encounter!

It’s rather important to have a fun community along side your games. Community managers are a key aspect to moderating your games and keeping the peace and fun at all times.

Make sure to have a clean background with ROBLOX and warm welcoming for all users of all ethnic groups.

:It’s a good idea to

  • Have a game running with server’s with a capacity of 21- players. (This is due to prevent lag if your game has more than 50 levels+ and not enabling streaming mode)

  • To base your game on an custom speed for your characters / jump height and R6-R15. It’s also nice to support Rthro users.

Theirs more complex aspects to Producing an Obby but this should not scare you from building an Obby game, I will mention some below.

  • Good Idea to hire GFX artists, (Users who create Logos, Thumbnails and gamepass icons as well as GUI’s and Advertisements Ect…)

  • Have a social page / account via Twitter, Discord and YouTube to communicate and hire users for jobs such as Scripting, Building, GFX ect…

  • Release constant updates

  • Have at least 5k ROBUX to put into the game, and advertisements to attract users.

Some common questions that I hope to answer in this post are as follows,

Should I use a Low-High Poly style for my game? - It’s a good idea to, as it attracts users, and gives a more clean vibe and unique approach.

Kind full notice (Please do not copy our game ideas, gratefully apricated, rather learn from our games and use a similar approach) :grinning: :+1:

A few things:

I’m glad you went with a unique concept. Water parkour hasn’t been done much before.

Everything looks very clean! The skybox, atmosphere, lighting, and start screen was nice.

Clouds looked really nice.

A few problems I’ve spotted with the game.

  • Water parkour isn’t really fun. Water feels clunky to land in, jumps aren’t quick to line up, and it’s not really difficult. I will say one stage I enjoyed was i think 24. It was the snake path, with lava blocks in the corner.

  • Music will drive people nuts, The music fits the theme, but after 20 minutes of playing I can’t get the tune out of my head. Put on a playlist of music rather then a single one.

  • Hidden lava inside water does not make for a fun mechanic. The pick-a-path stages were annoying, but a lot of obstacle courses have them, however, the stages where you needed to put your camera in to find where the lava parts were were frustrating, they should be visible from the outside.

  • Stage difficulty shouldn’t rely on distance, there were a lot of stages that had the same jump ~20 times in a row, or stages that were just a really long thin platform. Beating them is easy, but it’s just unnessesarily long.

I stopped at stage 33 I wasn’t sure what you were supposed to do.

Hello! @polill00

Thank you for the feedback regarding Aqua Dash.

We plan on implementing all your mentioned tip’s into our game ASAP, It’s to great receive

this information as myself and Tom have just released the game and know there are plenty of issues that need to be looked at.

Ah, I see what you mean. Personally for some reason I find it fun, I will look into the situation, I saw that other users love to use “speed” to jump quicker on the blocks, and they seem to enjoy it better like that.

Yes agreed, originally we were going to use that sound track for the intro GUI / Menu but decided and forgot to script it. We shall use a more Low Fi / Low beat musical approach with multiple songs in the background.

Ah I see…I will review this with Tom.

Mhm I agree with you on that point. We shall update the game as time progresses but at the moment our next update shall be a few days later on in the week.

Thank you once again for your feed back!

Sadly the game is now officially going to close due to some 3rd Part reasons. How ever I plan on releasing the game again once I find a trust worthy scripter.

It’s a shame Coder_Tom.

But don’t worry the game should be back on it’s feet again :+1:
