Unique obby idea?

Hello Developers! I wanna make a unique obby game that no one has ever made before. So, I’ve decided to combine the obby genre with a ROBLOX classic, Doomspire Brick Battle. And yes I know many people know what this is but in case you don’t. Doomspire Brick Battle is a game on ROBLOX that involves four towers, red, yellow, green, and blue. Players on those teams get items to destroy the other team’s bases. The last base standing wins.

You might be thinking, how could I mix up a fighting game in an obby? Well first, we got the map. As from the name doomspire, the map will be a tower, with obstacles to pass until you get to a different color. When you get to the top, you will be greeted with the ending, a beautiful view. The top may be the design of the top of a doomspire.

At certain stage points, players will get certain items to help them get through the levels. I’m not sure about the name should be but you guys could give me some ideas. I’m thinking of some ideas that involve also fighting but I’ll leave that to you guys to come up with.

So, is this a good idea?

  • Amazing idea!
  • Good idea!
  • Needs some work
  • Bad idea
  • Terrible idea

I feel like I would play it, but not many others would

Its got to have some fun mechanics, stages with a little bit of luck and timing and make the end have something more than a view

Also, to satisfy those little tablet players, add some bright and colorful effects.

That sounds like a pretty interesting idea, but I could see it being really chaotic. Instead of all fighting you could have objectives that the players of each team has to get to gain points, and maybe have like different stages where you could brawl with the other teams, and the teams with the highest scores move on. Maybe have a big box and have an end to the obby at the top, and people have to fight each other to get to the top, idk how that would look like but sounds like something to keep the game interesting. Add different effects like insta KO, low gravity, or like double HP for random events. Overall though great idea.

Obbies and fighting games are two very good and (if executed correctly) very enjoyable genres. However, mixing two good genres together does not always mean that the end result is an even better genre. It’d be a bit awkward to try and focus on an obby while some guy is chasing you with a sword, let alone that you envision the obby taking place in a tower. One wrong jump and you’re back at the bottom of the tower (unless you add preventive solutions for this).

Yes, it could be a one-of-a-kind game, but that also means that nobody knows what for game it is and if they will like it, so you have to try very hard to hook players in and explain them how the game works and then pray that the larger demographic likes your idea.

The way you currently describe it, you definitely need to think a bit more about the game’s future and how you envision it. Fighting games (fast paced action multiplayer) are on the opposite side of the spectrum than obby games (mostly children, slow, singleplayer), so find a good balance in between.

what if you add mechanics like sword floating, bomb jumping, and build saving to the game? No sword fighting but just mechanics like the original doomspire? As a doomspire tower map as an obby is kinda lame.

Are you saying I should give some of the original items to the players. Maybe like I can tell them to use the trowel to build up to get to a high ledge or something like that

just some features to make the obby stand out inbetween the hundreds of obbies out there

If only ROBLOX added back negative reflectance. It makes things neon/glow.

Maybe I can do events that involve fighting where you have to survive. Maybe like a zombie outbreak?
