I’ve known about this funny little error on some of the entries to the banded top hat series for a while now and I’ve decided that I should make a post about it to bring some attention to it for the possibility of seeing a fix? With that being said, this problem isn’t by any means major, but it’s quite possibly one of the easiest fixes of all time to a problem that really shouldn’t exist. I’ve went ahead and provided an example of the issue below as well as a complete list of the hats in this series affected by this issue and a proposed fixed texture for each one.
An example of JJ5x5’s White Top Hat as it currently stands on the catalog, with its current texture:
A proposed fix for JJ5x5’s White Top Hat, with an updated texture:
The problem as shown above also doesn’t exist on all of the hats part of the banded top hat set, which leads me to believe it’s not intentional. The main cause of this problem is due to unnecessary black and grey lines on the texture space added that serve no purpose being there and since they fall so close to the UV lines these unneeded lines bleed into the actual viewable texture of the hat due to Roblox’s wonky compression. Anyways, down below is a complete list of the top hats in the banded top hat series that are currently affected by this issue, as well as a list of ones that aren’t.
Affected Top Hats, With Proposed Fixed Textures:
Unaffected Top Hats:
- W’s Top Hat
- Blue Banded Top Hat
- White Banded Red Top Hat
- Valiant Top Hat of Testing
- Thoroughly-Tested Hat
- Video Creator Top Hat
- Approved Top Hat
That was a lot I know, but here’s some of my final thoughts. I’m well aware the idea of a proposed fix of these certified Roblox classics might anger some older users… but in reality, this does seem to be unintentional behavior to me due to the problem not persisting on all of the top hats in the series. These black lines are overall an eye sore once you notice them and only become worse while using R6 and wearing more accessories due to the way Roblox’s compression works on that body type. All of the proposed fixes I made myself remain true to the the original look of these top hats, all I did was simply cover up the unneeded black lines on the texture and fill in some blank spots. Even if my proposed fixes don’t get used, they are a good example of how easy it is to fix this small problem on some of the banded top hats.
