I have recently begun a game titled “Adrift in the Rime” , which is a part-roleplay, part-exploration game, where there is a rather simplistic plot that develops throughout the game as you learn more about the character’s history.
I won’t explain the whole storyline, but to put this in context I’ll briefly give you the important bits.
The player get sucked into an alternate dimension when they tried to give themself eternal life, and now they are stuck there – seemingly forever. The player doesn’t know this yet, but I was planning to explain it after the player jumps through a Ring that can reveal anything from the past, sometime after the text “Before the Rift” shows up:
And I’m in two minds about whether to display this explanation scene as a cutscene
or with simple text dialogue (the player can still move and the camera is not locked). I could also do text dialogue and then trigger a cutscene when the player sits down on the chair (referred to on the below poll as “both”).
I ask for the developer forum’s infallible guidance through this poll. Thank you.
- Cutscene
- Plain dialogue
- Both
