Unusual corrupted asset data error spike

We have been receiving several players’ report about their game crashing all in a sudden. The issue affects all players in the server and the issue crashes the Roblox game client with no any crash dialog appearing on the host’s device.

We believe this issue is not our sides but happen to be either a bug in the Roblox game engine or the server itself (i.e. protocol exploiting, screwing users’ asset data hence causing an unexpected crash). This issue is relatively recent and we have no similar issues in the past (months ago).

A screenshot of the error report statistics has been attached but no CSV file as it is not allowed to be uploaded in DevForum.

Last 7 days, log severity: warning, type: client, filter: corrupted asset data

From the screenshot, we see a relatively unusual pattern in the graph chart, where there happens to be random spike in error counts over period. A unfiltered, 30 days error report is attached here below:

Last 30 days, log severity: all, type: all, screenshot has been trimmed for privacy concerns

A screen recording of a player playing our game and facing the issue aforementioned in this post is attached below for your reference:

Because we have no complete data to fully analyze this issue and the root cause, we believe it would be better to let your team know this whether is this a vulnerability being exploited in either the engine or the RakNet layer.

Log/dump files were attached to the internal ticket by a Roblox Staff (@Focia19), due to the sensitive information they may contain, will not be shared publicly!

The top crashes from this game(5580097107) are from animation system as I can see from our internal system, but I’ll need to see the uploaded crash dump to confirm this. We will ask our animation expert to take a look.

Following up on this, do you still encounter this issue?

There are still a lot of errors regarding corrupted asset data so probably not. (Ignore the top error)

We closed the issue as it appears to be fixed.
