Upcoming Changes to Avatar Catalog Upload Requirements

Ya really done it Roblox. First it was the code moderation, then extending pending sales, now this. It would be nice if you would actually listen to community feedback when making a decision for once.

Premium is no longer required to make 2D clothing

This just makes premium less worth it to buy. One of the main reasons people buy it is so they can upload their own clothing. Now the only good reasons to buy premium are for trading and DevEx. I get that you guys want to make developing easier for users who can’t purchase it, but you could’ve at least made the fee lower for premium users (not that it would make this update any better).

2D shirts and pants cost 50 R$ per item to upload

My god, 50 R$ for just ONE shirt or a pair of pants? It may not seem like a lot at first, but it will add up quickly with the more clothing you make. If I wanted to upload a set, I would have to pay 100 R$. Most small clothing designers barely even make a profit of 100$, and not many people starting up have 100 R$ lying around to upload 1 set that would probably be stolen and botted into oblivion, and possibly deleted for being “inappropriate” because of a bandaid.

I doubt this will even prevent botting at all. Most botted clothing groups already made a bunch of robux, so it’s not like this will hinder them. Instead, fix your moderation system to fight botted clothing and go after groups that do this. It shouldn’t even be that hard to find them since a quick search reveals tons of botted clothing and the groups that make them. Don’t get me wrong, I like Roblox, but is this really how selling clothing will be. Paying 50 R$ for each piece, with the chance of it getting moderated for something not even remotely suggestive or violent, and likely getting stolen? No thanks.

Stop punishing developers for mistakes you have to fix.

Edit: Fixed the error about the set price.

To everyone saying that it’s R$50, it’s actually R$100 disguised as R$50 if you want to sell clothes because there are 2 separate fees. This is utterly a disgusting decision made by the Roblox corporation and should be pulled back immediately. It is harming several small designers and as a result to this update, many will not be able to post clothing as they will suffer multiple profit losses. I call for the appeal of this update right now.

I HIGHLY disagree! I think 50R$ PER CLOTHING is ridiculous! That’s BARELY profitable unless you’re somewhat of a well-known clothing designer or have a base of users that you know are willing to spend money on your clothing.

When did they mention the fee for putting shirts/pants on sale? I know this applies to t-shirts, but I assumed it was for t-shirts only.

Reasonable reasons roblox would roll this out:

  1. They want to stop clothing bots
  2. They want to make more money

My rebuttal:

  1. While this does stop clothing bots somewhat, it harms everyone. Only large clothing groups make enough off of each individual shirt to even profit off of their shirts now. This essentially kills the idea of user generated content and will restrict clothing to a few of the top groups essentially making a monopoly and stiffling the creative nature roblox was built on.

  2. While this reason is more sinister, its a legit reason for a company. The problem is that roblox will actually make less with this rolling out. First off they are giving everyone a 30% fee and making the shirts cost robux instead of premium. The three major reasons people used to buy premium/bc was for 30% fee, clothing, and trading. This will drive premium sales down by a lot as now it is very hard to see a need to even get it anymore. Roblox is obviously trying to increase their premium users with the premium payouts so this is very counterproductive. From a purely financial standpoint this will make roblox less money.

Conclusion:

With the reasons I listed above and their rebuttals it is easy to see that there are no real pros to this besides the decrease in clothing bots. The cons number greatly and this will most likely single handedly kill most of the designing community and drastically decrease the purchase of roblox premium.

I would feel more comfortable with this update if Premium users had not needed to pay a fee, whereas a non-Premium user would (I heard that being possible/true somewhere, but let me know if it’s true or not). It would not feel as if it were much of a change to the current 2D Designer community, but would provide the same new privilege that is being offered to non-Premium users.
Although we seem to have no real say in this change, I find that it would be detrimental to 2D Clothing production in general. When a user has their item falsely deleted, or they notice a mistake is made, they would have to pay once more for their item to be uploaded. Most actual 2D Clothing designers that don’t steal from others do not make enough robux from sales to make up for this new fee. Most, not all. This isn’t saying many do not have enough either, because many do.
Unless destroying the 2D Clothing design community is the goal here, whilst making room for desire towards–or maybe not with this in mind–3D Clothing, I do not see as to how this will stimulate sales and purchases more than it would create a sense of scarcity. That sense of scarcity coming from wanting to not upload for 50 or so due to it seeming harder to come by, uploading less and being more hesitant, and stopping completely when a product with a mistake in the art had been uploaded one too many times. Especially after knowing Premium users could upload without an extra fee, this would help emphasize that feeling of scarcity. Due this, I would only partially understand if Roblox were attempting to stimulate robux sales this way, but I feel as though Premium users should be exempt from this high of a fee.
If this is a change that is set in stone, please allow us to finish our current Premium subscription fully with permissions to upload freely until the next purchase. I only purchase Premium for that reason, for it is detailed to me that I have that privilege upon purchase.
Note: If Premium users are already exempt from this extra fee, let me know ASAP because these are my thoughts if Premium users now have an additional fee. Thank you.

Wow, yikes.

So literally despite all of the negative feedback, with the majority being from experienced clothing designers and many with small groups, and the majority of feedback supporting the change coming from people with little to literally no knowledge of how the whole clothing area works, we’re going through with this, are we?

Despite all of the harm that this will cause to the clothing market, which has been make abundantly clear in this thread, this still got the greenlight.

Despite how much this will limit peoples ability to be creative and express themselves on a platform that is all about “Powering Imagination”, we’re going through with something that will strip that “luxury” from the large majority of the playerbase. Not everyone owns a group swimming with robux to account for these fees.

But not monitoring and competely disregarding the massive wave of negative feedback with more than legitimate reasons and worries about these feeds, and how badly it will impact the clothing playerbase?

Our voice doesn’t matter.

To clarify for anyone that does not feel like reading the entire reply- I feel non-Premium should have this fee, and Premium should not have this extra fee on top.

We have fees to pay for, ads to pay for, moderation mistakes (when Roblox claims a plain tank top is inappropriate) to pay for, we have homestores to pay for, we have badges to pay for… it’s not just 50 robux.

Great! This will greatly reduce the amount of copy pasting etc. Argue all you want but this is for the better. I much rather pay 50 R$ an upload than to see my clothing or other clothing copy paste spammed on every single page I view.

I get that as a new person trying to get into the industry this might be a bit rough but something had to be done…

I also like how they explicitly stated “2D clothing” in the post, does this mean that 3D clothing is close to release?

While I have many concerns I do have a question. What if we upload a clothing item and it gets taken down? Will we receive a full reimbursement?

Roblox, you were supposed to stop the clothing bots, not make it easier for THEM. Literally everyone knows that even beginner bot makers end up earning AT LEAST 1k robux in profit, with how much they bot the visibility by buying their clothes for high prices (1k-5k) so it shows up higher.

Goodbye to the hopes and dreams of literally anyone wanting to be a clothing creator. The fact it costs 50 robux to make something with zero promise of making that back kills off anyones hopes of making clothing as a living, or even a slow income of robux.

This is going to be the final nail in the coffin for creativity (and that’s assuming that whoever was behind this doesn’t screw roblox up even more somehow)

On top of the facts that 1) it’s not against rules to copy clothing and 2) roblox clearly couldn’t care less about the bots despite having more than enough resources to automate fighting it, means making clothing on roblox is no longer viable as a form of income, or even a hobby.

This atrocity of an update needs to be pulled permanently and never spoken of again. I have never been more disappointed in the clear disconnect between roblox and the people who develop it. Imagine having such little knowledge about what you’re supposed to be running.

I understand that they are trying to stop clothing bots who spam copied clothing. They could maybe not let the same thing be uploaded or even make moderation stricter? l’m probably going to stop buying premium.

I am very disappointed by this update.
Lukcily I had the time to release tons of new clothes before today!
I am obviously going to stop DEFINITIVELY to create new clothings on Roblox and I will instead focus on making games.
I’m not going to write my opinion because I already did that in a previous message on this topic, but I am convinced that this will not stop botting at all and I am sad and angry.
This update is by far worse than tix removal.

This change rewards bots and punishes designers.

Many clothing bot farms have millions of Robux, essentially no barrier when it comes to the 50 Robux uploading fee. Even better, they don’t have to pay for premium for their bots anymore, increasing profits and how quickly they can push out copied outfits.

Designers now have to either increase their prices in hopes to afford the 50 Robux fee, possibly losing business. Or, they keep the same prices and lose Robux, their profits going into the red. Designers should be focusing on their designs, not if they can even afford to post their work online.

I don’t see how this is better. The botted clothing issue will NEVER be fixed. It’s too late. It’s easy for you to say that 50 R$ is a cheap price considering you own a LITERAL DOMINUS. This is my exact complaint with this update. It discourages new clothing designers from entering the industry, and it discourages clothing designers that barely make a profit from continuing.

I’m not a clothing designer, but I’ll throw my opinion into the ring.

This is a bad decision by Roblox. It’s more of a band-aid for clothing bots. It prevents bots from making clothing for a while, but of course, stolen/poisoned Robux exists.
Plus, the other botted stolen clothing that already exists and has existed haven’t been moderated and is still generating bank for the botters. Kinda like a band-aid.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: 2D clothing? Does this mean something? hmmm

Me: “Is this update stop botting clothing?”

Roblox: “Yes, but actually no”

Explain to me how cancelling premium and making (digital) petitions protest against the update.
