I’ve been developing a new MMO type game with a friend (@Vienyx) and have been seeing massive player drops recently. We want to know if the game is enjoyable and inviting, so I’m looking for feedback on this game.
Don’t sugar-coat it please!
(The game is still in alpha)
Level design is more visually appealing, maintains a fantasy mmo theme.
Bosses are more challenging compared to the first edition.
Gameplay is rather mediocre compared to other RPGs across the platform.
What can be improved on:
The GUI designs is rather messy, visually unappealing.
Gameplay during the night is frustrating as I can barely see where anything is though it could just be my graphics card.
Leveling is rather slow, barely any EXP is gained per kill and mobs respawn at a slow rate.
Questing in general is rather a bore, doesn’t seem as if there’s any storyline present and more like we’re assisting strangers with no end game objective in mind.
The concept is very good in your game, while there are definetly areas that you can improve in, I especially like the waypoint map system, though maybe you could add an ability to circle round to the other side, or to zoom out and select them manually.
The Camera could use a few tweaks, for example:
Right now, your camera can only rotate the character if you hold down, perhaps add a method in which you can toggle free flowing camera movement with a key, or have it so when your stationary, you can manipulate the camera view.
Try to make sure that your camera does not collide with an enemy/zoom in because their body parts are blocking the default camera depth.
UI is an excessively important part of games like this, as it must not only be user friendly, but memorable as the player will have to find use in it constantly
Try and utilise some of the newer features in UI development, like use a viewportframe of a characters head instead of the characters face.
Try to make sure that your UI styling is consistent. Personally, in my opinion, the current 8-bit style of your icons doesn’t suit with the square box UI.
Try to simplify your UI, it shouldn’t be difficult to use and should be easy to follow for new players.
Building Wise
Perhaps spend more time making maps more detailed, and utilise the “Universe” feature, so that you have greater capacity to do so.
Try to put a bit of time into the spawn, although it isn’t as significant as the maps, it is still the main hub for users and you’ll want it to be attractive or else they’ll go somewhere else.
Gameplay wise
Build a story in which quests can follow. Nobody likes quests if they get no return in the end. Having a story will retain players and it will give their grinding a purpose.
Turn up the spawn rate for mobs.
Give players a lantern so they can see better in the dark( perhaps welded onto a player’s character
Apart from that, it was ok! I wouldn’t say it is as refined as other MMO’s currently on the platform (Vestaria, etc) but it has potential!
