[Update] Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

When will this be fixed?

Failed to grant Universe permission to use asset ... : Status(StatusCode="PermissionDenied", Detail="User ID ... is not authorized to GrantAssetPermissions.")

They are clearly covering up because the original posts said nothing about copyright or legal orders but rather protecting creators’ rights, yet they put “while other solutions are being looked into” right after stating that we would not be able to set audio back to public in the FAQ…but on the question above it does say something about “solutions for asset privacy management”. As the UGC audio distribution is “paused”, I have no idea what they’re doing behind all this except begging players to use Roblox’s audio.
(Worst case scenario is that they hint or tell us we’ll never be able to distribute our audio again but please don’t spend your day thinking that.)

Still no notice so far on increasing audio limits.

Vehicle simulator has a few hundred SFX in it for various cars, UIs, races, map objects, collisions, braking, drifting, etc. Our game is heavily reliant on sound for a lot of its atmosphere, it is a racing game with a big map, and lots of interactable objects, and there are many sound queues and things that are important.

Many of these are owned by commissioners, or prominent developers, some are owned by developers who worked on this game. Most of these assets none of us have the ability to control, and most are SFX. What do we do about this? How can this be resolved, other than to manually go through hundreds of sounds and redo them all, having no way to get all of these private audios back?

There are a few music assets but most of these are all SFX, and there are hundreds. I can’t stress this enough, we can do nothing about it, not even something slow and meticulous, because most of these sounds imply aren’t owned by us they are owned by people who were commissioned, or people who originally uploaded these various sounds. This includes engine sounds, collision sounds, general map SFX for various different things, ambiance, etc.

What do we do? We can’t contact people, especially because some of them are no longer on Roblox. Some of them won’t want to spend the effort to enable these sounds. We can’t really do anything. This is exactly what I anticipated happening when this change was originally announced, and, I’m really sad that Roblox didn’t come up with a better less destructive solution, like temporarily disabling audio loading for these sounds and coming up with some sort of revision process to resolve issues.

It makes our game feel silent and dead, and I suspect it will feel this way for as long as I am on the team for.

What is worse is that so many people don’t seem to have any idea about this change’s existence. I get blamed directly when I am in game because they see my Developer tag, and I need to explain that Roblox got sued, and privated all the audio, and it’s out of our control. It’s difficult to explain this, because it sounds irrational to people, sometimes people don’t even believe me.

C.C. @BitFist @tnavarts not sure who to contact if there is even anybody I can contact, and I’m not sure what we can do. Are we just stuck with this? If so, the sound design in our game will be almost non existent for years.

That’s rather unfortunate. I was lucky and didn’t have the main group project I was working on get impacted nearly as hard, mostly because it was small. Still, they couldn’t have at least allowed using audios that are in your own inventory?

It was pretty generous of them to give us free audio if we upload at least 100 per 30 days. But unfortunately making user generated audio that’s more than 6 seconds long private so nobody else will be able to use it seems a bit much. I understand why they wanted to do this, but there are other ways they could of been able to deal with this situation with uploading audio on the site.

Fixed? There’s nothing wrong with that. That’s the error message you get when you don’t have the permissions required to use that audio in your experience.

I uploaded my original gun shot audio on March 19th it’s the 31st now and still not approved, uploaded another copy of it because it would maybe have been accepted (on March 23rd) yeah… no… it isnt.

Working around this update is incredibly tedious especially with this hard cap. Can we have some kind of estimated time of arrival for audios to have the ability to be publicly sold on the marketplace? It’s now needlessly annoying to find and/or upload the appropriate audios for my games.

You reached the upload limit for audio’s. You have to wait for 8 days until you are able to upload again.

How do i get more upload limit???

verify your account to get a max of 100 audio uploads per month or you have to wait.

Regular developers can get 10 uploads a month
ID verified developers can get 100 uploads a month
It is unknown how developers get 2000 uploads a month. Maybe it’s because of the amount of place visits

how to verify account???

When you go to settings on the roblox website you can verify your age there. It is below your birthday. You need an ID or something similar. When your verification is approved you will be able to have 100 max uploads for audio.

This change was unexpectedly stressful, and I predicted it would be very stressful. After reaching the hard cap I rushed to look for options to preserve the 11 essential audio tracks needed for my main showcase, so I asked someone else to upload the file and share it to me. They couldn’t share it because they had to have edit access at the time of the degradation and were confused as to why I needed them to upload it when they assumed all users had a 3000 audio upload cap since they had that limit.

I’m glad that the ability to share is coming up, but I am still quite unhappy with Roblox’s past actions and I hope it doesn’t occur again, though I know it will if I take precedent into consideration.
