The in game benfits aren’t something I hold my breath on, it really depends on the game developer to add them in their games, I only have premium because I get more Robux.
I also rarely come across a Premium catalog item.
It scares me Roblox is seemingly deadset on this update. These changes are still absolutely horrible for developers and games on the platform yet I see people being okay with it now because it was made 10% ‘better’.
What’s even more frustrating? As always they’re incredibly untransparent on the reasoning and give the vague notion “The asset privacy system on Roblox must be strengthened in order to continue to protect the rights of creators.” That’s really noble Roblox, but can you do that without breaking the platform? By literally just having decent copyright detection.
This leaves a very bad taste in my mouth and it all to reminds me of when they panicked and rapidly changed games to “experiences” on the platform during the Apple vs Epic lawsuit. Why specifically on the 22nd of this month? Why is it a hard deadline? We won’t be told, we never will be, never have before.
I realize this post probably came off as a rant and that’s half true, but I hope people get what I mean.
Well will all audios be unprivated at first and not target meshes or models? It’d help alot.
The cutoff is exactly 6 seconds.
The plugin is currently using an API that rounds the time to the nearest second which results in it incorrectly flagging sounds between 5.5 and 6 seconds.
The migration that changes the sounds to private will read the exact length from the sound file, so if you’re sure that your sound is indeed under 6 exactly seconds you can disregard the plugin’s warning in that case.
You’ve completely forgot to include the lawsuit in the argument. Roblox is doing this as a complete necessity, to combat their 200 million+ to pay. Getting a better copy right system will take a long time and they may have to eventually pay up.
They’re doing this for financial reasons.
Very fair point. I could rant all day about how Roblox should’ve done something sooner before this lawsuit happened and how much time/resources they had but what’s done is done, unfortunately. And as you’ve said a better detection system would take a decent chunk of time, time they don’t have anymore.
Still frustrating but I’m more understanding now.
Can you partner with Epidemic Sound to upload music to the catalog? Their music is really good.
this is so much better THANK YOU. first: new developers will be using alot more free sfx which means my game will be sounding EPIC. recently i was thinking about starting a project where i open source alot of sound effects, but that might not be needed after this update. Please ensure that the quality of these updates are good, you guys should make sure to play roblox games, see audios that are used frequently in those. such as shine sound effects, or maybe slash effects, burn effects.
And also i would love if you guys could also be creative in these sound effects. not making them without a purpose. but thinking about potential sounds that games may use.
Magic especially is a very sound heavy feature in games, while real world interactions are heavy sound features.
as for the permission system, i AM SO HAPPY about this, but i would like it if you guys could also add the permission to specific indivisuals, for example, a friend of mine is an sfx designer who wants to sell his sfx, i understand he can simply send his friends sfx to use. however it would also be nice if he could set permissions where he doesn’t have to send the file, he just allows the sfx to be used on the friend’s accessed experiences.
I can not retract my mean comments that the roblox dev community are poopy, thank you
edit: i meant to say i can now retract.
Can confirm, it’s out early.
However, I strongly advise everybody to avoid using the system in place right now because you cannot test everything accurately, as the audio privacy update itself has not started and will not start until the 22nd. It is safer to update your work after the update hits, so that you can ensure it works as intended, and you don’t risk having to fix things again after the update.
the error you were getting here was for the question under the one in the screenshot
the question only wanted you to input a number. For example you cant type in “like 100”, you’d have to type “100”
Apparently, we cannot allow specific universes to use group audios, only personal audios. Can we please get a remedy for this? @BitFist
I’m really glad that we get a response. And although alot of Audio may be removed, thank you for atleast providing us with alot more
A better way of putting it is that they are attempting to only target music and not sfx. Only time will tell how well they do.
i’m more happy with this update, i can finally say who will be able to use my audios so they don’t get leaked and some random person uses my audios, but i can make music without having to worry again. i hope the limit is 7 minutes, not something like 30 seconds though.
I’m so confused as to what these “Invalid Audio Removed” messages are about.
Friends of mine have been getting takedowns for music from the Sonic series, as well as random sound effects and uncopyrighted material. Why? What’s against the Roblox ToS with these?
Sonic Team is notorious for allowing the use of their assets in fangames, even going as far as to ignore fangames that make money off of their IP. They never copyright flag videos or games for utilizing their music, so why is Roblox taking down music from their games?
The intent of this fix was to allow group game owners to use their personal audios(as was much complained about in the first update release post). So they don’t have to upload them again!
This was highly requested and now its out(to alleviate work) and ppl are now complaining about it?
I’m asking why we can’t allow other games to use group audio. Some groups already have audio in them. I understand why we can allow games to use our personal audio, but I fail to understand why group audio isn’t also able to do this.
they didn’t say they were going to add that at this time. They said:
I’m not saying for you to call this update horrible and be extremely negative about it, because you are right there is lots of great things that come with this update. However it will not be exciting when thousands of games with active player bases that have terminated/inactive owners will now be muted. It will worsen the experience of the experience by quite a lot.
Roblox has just thrown this huge update on developers and given them a few weeks to get their games ready, and thats not acceptable, Roblox is worth billions of dollars and they for sure could’ve done something better to make this easier for developers to transition into this update. Maybe i’m wrong and they really had no choice, but they could at least explain why and give some transparency on why they HAVE to keep the deadline on March 22nd and give many developers with have big games a rough, stressful time.
For you it may be great, but if you look at the bigger picture, there’s a lot of problems that I hope they will reconsider.
They gave us free audios, they gave us free to use licensed music. But they destroyed 9 years of uploaded audios, made all boombox gamepasses worthless, muted millions of games, and gave us 2 weeks to adapt.
Still, my point stands. The fact we are unable to allow group audio to be used in certain experiences isn’t exactly helpful, and should be added.
