[Update] Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

I assume there isn’t because that would basically defeat what they said would be the purpose of audio privacy, but I am still very upset about the upload limits and how audio sharing is still frozen without any further answers. The fact they’re like “we’re giving you more control over your audio by giving you less ways to use them until we otherwise feel like it” is probably the worst thing I’ve ever had to respond to since I’ve started Roblox.

They are too busy trying to get sponsorships instead of focusing on the people who built their platform.

I think it’s time to announce something about this horrible update! Frankly one wonders if his changes are not final! it’s going to be 4 months that we haven’t heard from, It’s ABUSE! I think they will move audio uploading to the creator dashboard with hopefully better moderation and a better system for audio uploading. I hope they will keep us posted soon because it’s getting long.

Ive noticed a pretty big issue, You are unable to search by the ‘artist’ despite having artist data visible (Meaning it exists) to the toolbox and creator marketplace, For example, The artist ''StereoScopic" has a few tracks I really like for my game, finding other works by this artist is impossible because their work is uploaded under the ROBLOX account, searching for them returns no results. This is a pretty big issue for people looking to use music from a few specific artists (like myself) Ive only been able to find their work manually by scrolling through page after page. The toolbox even has album data, A very nice proposal could be adding search by artist to the toolbox, even better including an album/playlist view.

I know this is late, but what do you mean by potential competition? Roblox is one-of-a-kind.

Or maybe it’s what they think is potential competition as for gameplay / game creation / communication engines combined.

So is there going to be an update or what, because this is becoming an absolute circus. I REFUSE to give a random person edit permission to add an audio, because there’s too many stories of false terminations in TC games due to an external user inserting ToS breaking items. I see threads weekly for new updates, there is absolutely no excuse as to why there is NOTHING about an update on this.

When I first heard about this update, I thought it would simply be a slightly worse (but also slightly better) repeat of June 18th, 2018 (their previous attempt at sweeping copyrighted music) and that creators would instantly be able to change their audio back to public (because I didn’t read the entire announcement yet) but we’re still in this mess where we have to give others edit access to let their audio be used in our games and upload our ID to extend our upload limit (while random people got a higher limit without any answers) and we might even be limited to a certain number of audio per game even if it’s all from Roblox’s licensed catalog.

In 3 days, it’ll be 5 months since this was announced. When are we going to be able to make audio files public? I’m tired of waiting (as many other people are) and I think that if we don’t hear anything by the time the Creator Marketplace gets audio uploading, or we don’t hear anything about it at RDC, it’s a lost cause.

We’ve had to give players access with Universe IDs for almost 5 months, and I don’t think we’ve had the “1000 upload limit” addressed yet. I’m starting to believe that Roblox in its current state only cares about getting sponsorships, instead of working on new features for the platform.

The fact that it took (if I recall correctly) around 3 days for an official response just shows how little they care about how this would have, and has, negatively affected the platform. This update has broken countless old games, caused mass panic when it was announced, and overall caused Roblox to lose developers, and maybe even a few players.

I hope that this is brought up at RDC or by January 2023. If not, then I don’t think we will be getting public audio sharing any time soon.

There’s a simple cause to this really.

Money.

If the audio of Roblox (All of the audios but not the copyrighted and some of them actually got fasely copyrighted) was back, people will be happy.

You can also check my post !

Here:

The post from What changes to the Roblox ecosystem would you like to see?

If you’re going to provide us with the Audio Discovery tool to help us fix our broken audios, can you at least make it work? I don’t feel like having to manually click through hundreds of audios in my game when there’s a tool that should be able to do this for me.

How are there no discovered audios but hundreds of errors in my output?

I know I’m late to the party, but no time like the present I suppose!

Personally, the biggest issue I see is the sudden lack of songs in the marketplace. It’s really frustrating if for example, a player owns a boombox gamepass and wishes to play a song, they go to search for their song and “no results”. They search for another, “no results”. I feel this is mainly due in part that the majority of music on the platform are by players that have long moved on from Roblox, so users who uploaded iconic songs (I.E “Raining Tacos”) likely won’t ever repost them on the new system.

Personally, as long as songs aren’t being used in a manner which earns someone profit, it seems to me that it’s not a huge issue. But I guess Roblox digresses.

Unfortunately, all Roblox games are monetized (Premium payouts count), so they do violate copyright law. Roblox is legally obligated to remove these songs, and they had to deal with a lawsuit against music licenser companies.

I don’t think that would be an exception for allowing copyrighted music on Roblox, but I agree that the vast majority of public SFX and popular royalty-free songs should be brought back in some way.

Audios have been private and 5 months have passed and we yet still have no response. This just proves that Roblox doesn’t listen to us

I dislike this update, reasons why

I can’t use audios that have been on ROBLOX prior to the update,
Many of the audios I have in my Inventory can no longer be played at all,
I can’t make my audios public for others to use.
Finding the audios I was able to use that I cannot find anymore.

I’m basically saying this privacy update was a mistake and has caused many stress to us developers who relied on most audios that were already free to the public, and trying to find the audios again somewhere on the internet is extremely difficult and uneasy.

They possibly set many old sounds longer than 6 seconds to private due to external issues but that doesn’t really explain why they said they would eventually allow the user-uploaded audio marketplace to be reopened and yet we haven’t gotten any answers as to when. They’re probably still setting some old SFX back to public but all the new audio are still locked to private (without any info other than “at a later date”).

Yes they tried to stop bypassed songs but they FAILED SO HARD, there is a LOT of bypassed songs published and Roblox cant stop them. Roblox just made everything more hard for developers.
