Updates to Item Holding Periods [Marketplace]

As a non-trader I’m going to need explanation on how this is going to ruin trading. Plus, if you hate this change, can you not think of any alternatives that doesn’t damage trading AND is safe?

2-day holding period for trading to combat beamers is understandable.
7-day holding period for re-selling?!?!

Very solid change. User security is key and this should prevent a lot of items from being stolen.

The trading community will obviously be displeased, but this is a big step forward especially for the newer users who frequently get taken advantage of.

Honestly I miss Shedletsky at the company, he created the trading system, he knew how it works! It’s been months since Roblox has been releasing drastic updates and without any positive feedback from the community - SINCE WHEN DO TRADERS ASK FOR HOLD?!

I started off with a gucci bag collectible and went to ~80k in one month w/ premium (Upbeat_Trading | Roblox Player Profile - Rolimon's). With this change, I would likely deem this progress literally impossible. Imagine literally wanting to trade your item you got a day ago and you can’t because it’s being held? That feels like such a smack in the face.

I understand and 100% believe that safety should ALWAYS be the top priority, but this 2-day holding period is at an extremely damaging compromise for trading as it currently is. The cost-benefit analysis here is that this holding period is just bad: “this 2-day holding period was done without the proper consideration in mind about how this may potentially affect those who often trade actively. While I think safety is extremely important, I do not think this is a just compromise to uphold safety upon”.

If ROBLOX wants to preach safety, they haven’t let us put more than four items in a trade yet (disincentivizes MMing, DT scam, mass upg/dg) Seriously?

This isn’t too bad but I feel like people that own smaller items will not be able to profit quickly. Perhaps you should only do this holding period for items over 100K rap?

roblox just gotta realize they cant just add pending time to everything instead of actually fixing a problem

This implementation of holding periods for non-UGC limited kills the whole aspect of trading and destroys an economy that has functioned perfectly fine for years. The main focus of it is to prevent compromises but the update entirely neglects the community of trading and punishes the user for something they had no part in doing. There are easier methods of preventing stolen accounts/items from being passed around before getting into shady hands but this change makes it near impossible for people who work with smaller items below the 1 million rap threshold to even profit from trading. It’ll just lead trading into an indefinite hiatus and push away a large portion of the player base who use the bigger portion of the economy. You killed two birds with one stone, but at what cost?

I sure do love how most of the people supporting this update don’t even actively trade or are involved in the trading community.

Trading is fast-paced, and the way most people gain value from trading is by completing a lot of trades per day with high-demand items (such as Super Super Happy Face, Playful Vampire, Black Iron Horns, etc). However, if they add a 2-day holding period, it’ll be very difficult for traders to gain any value, and it will also make it very difficult for new traders to start trading.

I realize Roblox wants to prioritize safety and security, but I don’t think it should be at the expense of the trading community. If Roblox really wants to prevent items from being stolen from compromised accounts, they should only add a holding period for trades with large differences in RAP, because if there’s a holding period for every trade, all it does it harm normal traders.

Especially so in smaller items (<200K) does this disrupt trading because the circulation of items in that range are very high and it isn’t unusual to trade an item there within a few hours of obtaining it, since there are much more people trading at that level. At times, items start to get traded for lower than the amount they usually do (for example such as a hoard of a rare item being released which destroys the artificially increased rarity of the item), which can lead to items spiraling downwards within hours, and having a 2 day holding period would prevent people from trying to trade off an item.

If there should be one, holding periods for trading should only be for extremely unbalanced trades (ie 1M RAP vs 10K RAP) that would actually likely stem from an account being compromised, there is no reason to disrupt normal trades that clearly shows both sides agreed to it.

Edit: Like what others said, the amount you can earn from smaller items is substantially less than bigger items, so the quick paced nature of trading is extremely important for people without much.

I don’t even trade and I know this is a dumb idea. There was nothing wrong with the old system.

You know it’s bad when you can spot a trend:

  1. Make a really awful change
  2. Either course correct as soon as plans or revealed or decide to not revert the change (please revert the change)
  3. Make a bunch of really good changes after that extremely terrible decision in hopes people forget about it
  4. Go back to Step 1

Horrendous change in my opinion, this completely kills the pace that the Roblox marketplace offers when it comes to the reselling and exchange of limited items. Me and the other 99% of the trading community ask you to revert this planned change.

Who is coming up with all of this, its absurd and clearly hardly ANY thought went into this.

the fact that you do not trade already explains why you do not understand that this is a horrible change and devastating for the trading community…

This will completely destroy and kill trading. The trading system is completely fine as the way it is now and does not need to be changed in shape or form and should be left as it was for the past decade.

Do NOT add the 2 day holding period to trading this is godawful.

In the process of increasing security they are essentially making it so new traders can not make value in the first place.

It would be beyond useless as a small trader with around 5k value for example, trading an item for 200 more than its worth then having to wait 2 days to do that again, 800 profit a week isn’t going to help these people make something from trading and is very ignorant to the trading community.

it’s so hilarious how it’s only been an hour and almost every limited has tanked severly nice going roblox :innocent:

This is awful.

The trading community is burning in front of our eyes, because of this decision and this decision only.

I hope you’re proud of yourselves for ruining a completely functional system.
