Updating Experience Guideline Policies to Keep Our Younger Users Safe

In the past year, Türkiye banned Roblox due to concerns of user safety. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is investigating into Roblox about the similar issues Türkiye was having problems with. This effects Roblox’s reputation and has legally forced Roblox to attempt their best to improve the safety of the users on Roblox.

I will say that this update doesn’t initially do much since Questionaries are easily bypass able but if they started requiring the game owners to provide identification to allow search to be available then this could really help a lot.

I think it has something to do with their new real-time CSG features. They don’t want to discourage such a potential for growth on the platform, even though it’s contradictory.

if you are following the rules there is no need for distress

It sucks that free-form will be restricted to 13+, they could have discovered a different approach to this.

what other approach is there, its not humanly possible to moderate millions of creations a minute

I know a lot of people are against AI, but since ROBLOX already uses it for moderation, it wouldn’t hurt to create a system specifically for moderating 3D assets and give developers the tools to manage it.

Roam around for 5 minutes in the Spray Paint game, and you’ll worship this announcement.

It’s surprising that they allowed kids under 13 to see that kind of shocking content until now.

My game, Oaklands, allows users to build using resizable shapes. Would this mean that my game would have to be moderated for 13+? Does this instead fall under the category of being assembled with 3D assets, making it fine?

This feels… bad. The rest of the update is some nice, well-needed changes - but the policy being applied retroactively will absolutely nuke old games where the developers haven’t been able (or just haven’t wanted to) update their age ratings.

Time will tell, I guess :/

For creators who have very popular games, and have been offline since before the experience guidelines, <13 users won’t be able to play some of the games they know and love because of an oversight in this update.

Did you read the announcement?

Well doesn’t this basically defeat half the point of EditableImage? It’d be great if we had some kind of API for moderating images in-game.

Hahahaa… so what are you going to disallow next? Can you give us a bit more of a lead-up so we can actually react? Feels like I dodged a bullet with this one. Not thrilled about what might be next.

This change is necessary, but my question still is:

When the questionaire changes and you need to fill it out again like you’d have to do a month ago with the additional horror question, does this count as a not filled out questionaire immediatly, after a specific time period or not at all?

And does this then impact the games discovery?

Exactly, AI tools would be a great alternative to 13+

Absolutely great update! Im glad you guys are actually trying your best to keep under 13 users safe!

You guys are going in the right direction.

what does “3D assets that have individually gone through Roblox moderation” mean? I’m pretty sure most building games from old Roblox don’t have their assets go through Roblox moderation, not even the now private, Welcome to ROBLOX Building you guys made.

if u have a game in which you can place down furniture, has that furniture gone through roblox’s moderation beforehand?/is roblox able to moderate it for themselves?

they are not talking about the couch itself they are talking about how the couches are positioned.
