Upload Custom Materials in the New Material Service Beta

Can you script custom materials? Like an in-game UI, where you post image id’s ,and game sets that material

You’re treating MaterialService like a table

ms[“Brick”] = …

But it requires hard references.

ms.Brick = …

im very very very happy with this new feature and the future ones , i waited this for years

Roblox, it is very important now for the entire terrane to reduce the size of the studs

This will help a lot, for example, in creating footprints in snow or sand. Now it is simply impossible to do this with a terrane.

It did between December 2020 and still does now, I remember it was in Beta but appeared in game on March 17th 2021 when I decided to try it

That’s proof it can be done

That also my problem, i cant tile it corectly, and beacuse of that 2 bircks cant also fit in each other because the texture doesnt decimate on the right way

its gonna be nice if it acted like tetures so i can use trimsheets

Super awesome. I think we’ve all waited a long time for this feature. Places are about to become a lot more varied and interesting!

It’s a “in pairs” loop, so I must resort to table-like build. Anyways my issue was solved with earlier post by a staff member.

You require special functions instead.

I’m most looking forward to Per-Part Customization, will I be able to apply a texture to a specific group of parts in a model through script? I am curios to know if Custom Terrain materials will allow me to give different bodies of water, different colors and properties? I have been making the water white and overlaying it with a semi transparent BaseParts.

Ok, you made me reconsider what I said. Particles aren’t the same :frowning:

Yes it can and will probably be done. But I think they are gonna wait a little bit before releasing it to the Roblox client as it can impact much more people.

Yep, good luck to whoever wishes to do that

We already have PBR water that splashes and stuff through SurfaceAppearance but I can’t find the post

that is true but textures cannot follow Uv-maps sadly

Could we have the feature to create our own material instead of editing the default ones?
