When one uploads audio they should be required to identify it as music or sound effect or some other system that ultimately achieves the same goal. The goal is to achieve better search results, it’s VERY annoying when you’re searching for a sound effect of something and instead get a heap of songs similarly named and make it more difficult to find what you’re looking for.
Feel free to expasd or suggest better ideas entirely.
That would get especially annoying if you ever wanted to batch upload multiple audio files. What about being able to search by audio length in the library? If you’re looking for gun shot sound effects, search for sounds less than a second or two. If you’re looking for a looping engine sound, look for something 30 seconds or longer. If you’re looking for music, search for > 60 seconds. This also means you’ll be able to effectively filter already-uploaded sounds.
I don’t see why it would get annoying even if it’s for batch uploading files, you already set the title, description etc. so a little tick box wouldn’t make much of a difference no? Also search by length doesn’t sound as helpful and somewhat excessive too
No you don’t. You select a file, click upload, and then you’re done. Its title, description, and other properties are automatically generated (title defaults to file name) and you don’t have to supply any information.
The same reason why there’s a Chrome extension for uploading multiple decals at once (uploading multiple times is tedious). Even though it’d only be two uploads (assuming ROBLOX never adds more categories) I’d probably just mark all as SFX and get it over with in one upload. When I upload videos to YouTube the majority of the time I leave the category at its default (Entertainment) instead of selecting something more appropriate, and I don’t see why it’d be any different on ROBLOX. On top of that existing audio is still not properly categorized.
Neither is automatic. I would however, like the ablity to set my audio to music, sfx (and what kind of each genre of music/type of sfx) for easier finding, doesn’t have to be upon uploading, it can be after.
This is fine as long as the default value is “unsorted”, or else you’re going to have the same problem where you can’t find anything because everyone is uploading their music as SFX because they can’t be bothered to categorize it right.
Yes it will. Music is not 5 seconds long and gunshot sounds are not 1 minute long. Length-based searching can do no wrong.
