Oftentimes on the devforum someone wants to reply to multiple people. Many people will post them in multiple replies, this results in 2+ replies in the thread in a row being made by the same person within seconds or minutes from each other. People should put everything they want to say at that moment in one comment rather then multiple comments. For example just quote what/who you are responding to and when you are done just put another quote and respond to that. If this is resolved I think the devforum comments would be a lot less spammy and a lot more clean.
I am proposing this to be added to the forum rules. Please let me know of any questions or concerns you have. I believe this will be a interesting thing to get the opinion of other users on.
UPDATE: @PeZsmistic has stated that this is against the devforum rules.
So I have now brought up the idea of having some sort of a system to prevent this.
I think I agree with this statement. As I don’t really think it is spammy, to be honest, I think it is unnecessary and I agree with the part where you state that people post things twice in a row.
Yes, I agree a lot. This happens often on portfolios or cool creations and it is very annoying.
Example:
person 1: (in a portfolio) hey your work is good
person 2.: your work is good
portfolio person: (answering person 1) thanks
portfolio person: (answering person 2) thanks
I’m not sure what rule number it is, but there is already a rule. If you need to reply to several posts, reply to each of them in 1 post, not in multiple.
Perhaps we could consider implementing a feature that restricts users from doing this then? Maybe there’s a way to not allow users to make two replies in a row
Just flag the spam. DET will give the user feedback and merge the posts, so they can learn from it.
Adding a restriction to how many posts you can make in a row will prevent legitimate use cases where people need to reply in length to multiple users/posts.
If you post a few replies in a row on one topic, you’ll be given a warning banner reminding you to put them all in one big reply; after (iirc 4?) it will just block you off from posting more replies.
Although, buildthomas’ reply makes me believe that this may have been disabled (please correct me if this is the case, given that I’m basing this off relatively old past experience).
