When using the Roblox App in an experience with an account that has chat disabled, the chat button will disappear as expected. However, the chat box window still appears and will focus when hovered on in the top-left of the screen. As a result, users with chat disabled cannot fully close the window, making interacting with experience elements which sit behind the window difficult or impossible depending on the device.
Steps to reproduce:
- Have an experience with UI element in the top left of the screen
- Join the experience on an account with chat disabled
- Move mouse to top-left to click on the UI element
As shown in the screenshot below, the chatbox covers the UI element.
My account has chat enabled, so the chat-bubble icon appears and allows the user to disable the box. However, users with chat disabled cannot.
Found on Windows 10 and Windows 11
Expected behavior
While the chat bubble icon disappearing when chat is disabled makes sense, it is an oversight that since the icon is not there the chat cannot be fully disabled. A possible change could be for the icon to be pushed into the hamburger menu that always appears regardless of account social controls; or a ‘close’ option in the 3 dots of the chat window. Regardless of solution, it should be expected that any user regardless of social control settings can disable the chat window.
Edit: Picture of incorrect behaviour
As shown, there is no button for the experience chat, it may not be used, however the chat window is present when hovered and cannot be disabled.
