I’m new to complex building, and new to this forum as a whole. I was wondering when might it be wise to use blender or some other program over studio tools. Should I rarely try to use it, or can I make all my builds via blender? Just looking for good applications of the technology.
Hello @HyperLiink, If you want me to suggest between Blender and Roblox Studio, I will prefer you to use Blender. It’s because of 2 things.
1st : Reduces time : What takes hour making in Studio can be a 5 minute work in Blender.
2nd : Reduces Lag : To do complex building you need to use a lot of parts to get a quality shape. That makes your game kinda laggy and android users won’t be able to play. But you can customize polygons in Blender.
Using Blender means you can get a lot more detail and flexibility with how you build. Also, when building something in Blender, don’t make it all one piece, split it into multiple pieces. This is because high-poly and larger models have terrible collisions in Roblox, which can’t be fixed. Just try not to make it too high-poly so that lower end devices like phones and older/cheap PCs can get good performance in your game. I would say use a combination of both Blender and Roblox to build.
Hello! I’m @Lil_SharkyBoy a new 3D Artist to the Platform and been here just 2 weeks now! I would like to say that I use Blender as a better way because of some good points we can see effectively and without a problem.
Blender
What offers Blender?
Better workflow!
What I mean by this? Blender gives you a lot of tools, shortcuts and utilities on the software, and with every new update they release, it gets better to us, the 3D Artists! This reduces times and effort on what we can make.
Better detail!
When we are talking about complexitivity on our project, we will like to use more Blender to fix this issue, Blender offers a lot of stuff to make detailed and complex models, meshes, etc! Take an example on something like this:
But as always, it have good and bad points that I would like to show you too!
Roblox Studio doesn’t support a model with more than 10,000 tris count
Yes, Roblox Studio doesn’t support high detailed models made on Blender, Cinema 4D, etc.
Terrible collisions when it become to larger models
Hohoho! YES, there’s terrible collisions, a friend made a museum a months ago and it was great and well made (on Blender) and then he exported to the Roblox Studio and… There was invisible parts over the place!!
Roblox Studio
What Roblox Studio offers that Blender doesn’t?
Simple buildings
I’m not a great fan of simplistic, because I like to go with really high detail and explote my PC because of that, but, sometimes is something useful! You won’t take years and years makind well detailed, exporting to Roblox Studio and making a lot of great stuff for a simulator.
Issues with Roblox Studio
But like Blender, Roblox Studio has a dark side.
Laggy when it comes to high detailed structures
Yes! Something that I like on Blender is that you can add much detail as you want and never gonna be laggy, just gonna waste a lot of GPU or CPU (not recommended) of your PC / laptop. Anyway, when it comes to Roblox Studio and with the high detailed structures, this becomes really laggy to be honest, the count parts are really, really high and it becomes harder to your PC to run this.
Lack of useful tools
Well, I know this is not 100% truth, because I see some really good structures on Roblox Studio that they’re compltely made on Roblox Studio, this is really awesome. But for someone new without any experience on Roblox Studio or Blender, this becomes a difficulty.
Using blender you can vary your building in a lot of different ways, with saving time. Problem is, you cannot make very high detailed models on it. Blender can also reduce lag, as you need to use a lot of parts to do an actual well shape into roblox, whereas it does not take as much effort on Blender.
Studio offers a small main amount of tools (barely any if we speak without plugins- my opinion)to customize your parts in any way. You can’t really make something far detailed on Studio within a short time, specifically if you’re new to Studio.
To Blender it sometimes happens that there are very bad collisions.
For larger stuff like backrounds and buildings, generally studio is better since you won’t need up close details. However, do keep in mind that importing your creations must be done as a meshpart (with textures if you chose) which will impact performance/file size.
