Version Handling - Skip to page

Hello developers and Roblox staff,

I’ll try to keep this short. As we save games, versions can pile up into the thousands quickly, especially if we’re using Team Create. If you lost an old model or need to grab an old script from the game or anything really, you could be clicking a hundred times or more just to find the version you’re looking for since each ‘page’ only displays 10 versions. You may even have misclicked or chosen the wrong version, and so you must repeat this process of clicking a hundred times through the pages to get to the version you’re after.

What I’m requesting today is a textbox and ‘jump to page’ button that would allow us to skip to a desired page in the versions rather than clicking a hundred times to go back and find an old item we’re looking for. This is a relatively simple addition to the website for a relatively rare problem, but still a problem nonetheless. If this feature is added, countless hours will be given back to developers collectively which they can use to develop the games they’re working on.

Exhibit A: Sometime in the last month, a model I had in my game got ruined by deleting stuff I wasn’t supposed to. I must now go back to a version from 9/27/19 to grab a copy, then go back to the present version and insert the unaltered model. Total clicks: 142

Yes please! One of my older games got recently all it’s models removed and spam saved by one of the people who were in the team create with me. It would be a lot easier for me to sort through the versions to get the one we left before the incident.

The page skipping should also be added to catalog, toolbox, player search, etc. Literally anything that requires you to go through a hellish amount of pages.

  • Improves UX - user experience
  • Speeds up searching for developers, players

Do allow inputting number for which page to look at on the Page [X] of [Y], where you can manually type in a number on [X].

Roblox has actually been removing paging in favor of the cursor-based approach because being able to jump to arbitrary pages is too expensive on the backend.

I doubt they will re-add page jumping, but they should be able to add filters (like creator/price filters in catalog) that would help here. E.g. before:2019-27-09. Though even this seems bad, as I’m guessing OP was going through random versions to find one before the model was messed up. It would probably be more convenient to select the model and get a list of past revisions for it alone, and not the entire game.

I knew the model was fine at the beginning of 9/27/19 so I chose that day to go back to to be safe. Most of the time though I am just clicking through versions eternally to find something I’m looking for without knowing exactly which versions it may be on. It wasn’t possible for me to skip clicking 142 times and spending 3 minutes or so just clicking through versions.

Is page jumping to around page 142 and then clicking an extra 3 or 4 times to find the precise version truly more expensive to Roblox’s website than going to each of the 142 pages individually?
