The “access” you’re referring to is just you acknowledging that you got them from the internet. This is not sufficient sourcing, we want you to make all of this information and data completely public and free.
Might I remind you that we are the original artists. We have FULL say in how you use our work. You cannot argue against how we are licensing our work.
For context, he repeated himself for a very, very long time prior to this. I was trying to be patient with him and reach a peaceful conclusion but he constantly repeated himself, shifted blame and refused to compromise.
I joined his server and began discussing this with him at 3PM in my timezone. It is now 6:30PM. We spent hours trying to reach a peaceful conclusion.
That doesn’t at all change the part of you selling a plugin that gives people easier access. You are making a profit off of what work? The plugin architecture itself? People are buying it for quicker access to these assets you did not make. So you think the amount of “work” put in here justifies a cost? This would make sense if the majority of the assets were made by or commissioned by you, but instead every asset is some other persons hard work that you profit from.
most of zonito’s assets arent commissioned too. they are open source and from the same place.
does that mean he can’t include them in his plugin for easy access instead of everyone having to upload them? no
Our assets are free. Completely free. We do not redirect our users through a circus to get them. We do not charge anything for access to them. We do not lock credits behind a paywall. If you want our assets, you join our server and check the labelled channel. Or you directly look at our unedited, raw texture data which is directly linked for free.
Yes, but they are from a server dedicated to a free and open sourced community. You are going around, collecting all of these assets, and putting a price tag on them. It doesn’t matter if you credit them, or link directly to the original source. You are making a profit on them. Unless every single creator of those assets gave you explicit rights to make a profit off their work, you are in the wrong. You can try to come up with whatever excuse you need to feel justified, but this is just a gross and disgusting act.
Ah, actually, we have no problems with people including our work in their plugins. We just ask that the raw database is provided for free individually so that it isn’t an incentive to purchase.
^^
That was the “deal” I tried to make with coroutine_yield in his server, which he denied.
The product is literally designed to be an easier access point to assets. If you made the assets, had them commissioned, or actually had the permission of the artists (who actually did the work your plugin is primarily about), then yeah you are free to do whatever you want and this would be fine. But instead, the product is designed around the work others have done, with the only work done by you being the architecture of the plugin.
If the only thing you did was the architecture of the plugin, why increase the cost when you gather more assets?
