Greetings! I am Fizz and I am a Builder, GFX Artist and a 3D Modeller.
The game is supposed to fit the theme: Victorian. I wanted to blend in a cartoony, low-poly style with a style requiring some texture as I think it’ll look interesting. This game is where you receive villainous quests from the city hall and you try to go against Queen Victoria’s mass plan to cause raidings, disruption and attacks on the city.
A while ago, I’ve started working on this project that I scrapped with my scripter as
he was unable to find time to help me, I am planning to come back to it as I’m ready
and all I need if a bit of feedback.
a) Should I scrap the buildings and the project?
b) Should I start again?
c) Should I keep it and build onto it?
I will give some building previews, so far, I have made a City Hall and a Victorian Pharmacy: The city hall is the place where quests are obtained, the pharmacy is the place where you can buy special boosts and potions.
And last but not least, I’ve finished a neighbourhood, a small civilised residential area: This is where you receive daily mail and your daily login bonuses.
Thanks for reading! Perhaps I could edit the storyline to make it more meaningful and to put emphasis on the cause of the mass raidings etc and maybe improvements to builds, if possible?
Perhaps you could build on that idea maybe? What could you mean by saying ‘new terrain’? You mean give it more of a structure? Make it more natural? etc.
Yes, I agree. Thanks for that suggestion. I will try work on that. That does seem to be an issue and I think if I model my own terrain, it’ll amplify the feeling of low-poly.
Hello, I am Hop_Jr
I like your unique style and nice descriptions, you assumed a lot of detail and landscaping. Your use of terrain is pleasing to the eye, and the lighting conveys fantasy. Victorian is a medieval style, and I love how you pulled this off. However, there are critiques comprised of greatness.
One, I noticed how your civilized residential area seems to have repeating buildings. I find this to take away from the victorian feel, as when I think of medieval, I think of differences in height, structure, and just overall feel. If you are going against the Queen, why not make a town with equipment, armory, and weapons?
Another thing I noticed is a proportion problem. Why is one picture (with the City Hall and Pharmacy) more detailed than the residential town? I believe this shows a lack of detail, but that’s my opinion.
Lastly, the castle in the background seems HUGE, specifically, the gate, but that’s my opinion.
In conclusion, your map/game looks nice, but more things can be improved on, and to answer, I’d say choice c. I would probably replace some of the buildings with new ones though. Anyway, I hope you consider my critiques into consideration and I wish you the best!
Hi! Thank you so much for your response! You really made me think and you made my eye open further. Why wasn’t there so much equipment, armoury and swords? Why did I lack more detail on the neighbourhood? These little things honestly does build the feeling of fantasy, yet I lacked them.
Perhaps the castle door was WAY too big, so I should definitely size it down, the size of the castle was used to make it look almighty and, maybe, villainous! I will definitely consider changes on the castle. I should definitely include more detail on the castle and customise each house with it’s own twist.
Thank you so much, hopefully, these critiques will make me improve better. You response what just what I was looking for!
