I am uploading video clips which are occasionally being content moderated despite only containing footage from within a Roblox game and my face. This is a problem that is becoming more common for us, and since we are using all the clips together we can’t continue if one is incorrectly moderated.
Expected behavior
I should be able to upload an appropriate video clip without hassle.
I followed up by appealing via Roblox support. They told me this:
Supposedly, the Wanted Poster in the video goes against the Community Standards.
This video is literally a screen recording from Blox Fruits. So there’s two options:
Wanted Posters are not allowed (which seems really harsh), and if true then Blox Fruits should be moderated as well.
Blox Fruits is not breaking the rules and therefore my video is okay.
Both of these cannot be true! I have nothing against Blox Fruits, but regardless of whether Roblox decides that Wanted Posters are inappropriate or not it does feel very unfair that I’m being moderated when Blox Fruits is not.
For now, I will edit the clip, blur the poster, and move on - but this sets a bad precedent for the future and I’m expecting to run into this issue again within the next few weeks.
Here is an image of the Posters inside Blox Fruits which caused me moderation:
Side note: I don’t think video assets should be moderated this way!
I understand the need to moderate images harshly because they can be viewed on the platform and used by anyone on the website. But videos are completely different; you can’t watch them on the website, and you can’t put them in any game unless the creator gives you explicit permission.
So in my opinion it would make a lot more sense to moderate the experience as a whole that the videos are inside of, as the context can be really important, and it seems inconvenient for me as a creator and more effort than needed on Roblox’s part. How can experiences like On Tap be celebrated as aging up the platform (which is great!), yet asset moderation won’t take into account what experience that asset is a part of?
This is extremely harsh moderation. Almost seems like the person reviewing your appeal is trying to find a reason to justify the removal, rather than it being what it was actually removed for (unless it was reviewed by an actual human).
