There’s a bug like this which has been around since day 1. The “fix” is to just click the mic bubble above your head a bunch until it fixes itself (nobody knows why this is an issue or why that’s the fix, but it works and that’s what matters)
I’m unsure if that’s the issue you’re having here though. Have you double checked that Roblox is properly finding your mic? Have you been able to use voice chat in the past/is this a new bug or not? Are you able to still hear other people’s mics (and if you can, have you verified that they can hear you and it’s not just a visual glitch?)
During the very earliest days of Spatial Voice (a.k.a Voice Chat), I used to have my microphone with a grey colour… As I did not understand how come it was always appearing, I decided to do a bit of test and came to the conclusion that it is based on the connection while loading in the game client and/or what microphone the engine is trying to track from either output/input. Furthermore, it also showcases another icon with a warning sign with the meaning of an error result.
If you have encountered this a few times once entering an experience, try rejoining and waiting until all in-game assets are loaded enough for the service work.
It seems like for some people this issue resolves itself within a very short amount of time, but I’ve personally been trying to get my voice chat fixed for the past 2 months.
I reached out to Roblox support and were pretty useless: they asked me to reinstall Windows to fix what was very clearly a bug on their side. What fixed it for me was using a VPN. The second my VPN turns off, I completely lose access to VC and experience the same symptoms explained in the original post.
Ehh… This bug happens and then doesn’t happen for me. It seems to come and go whenever I switch networks (I travel a lot, so if I play on my laptop I’m either on mobile data or a house’s WiFi).
Hoping they’ll come to some kind of permeable resolve soon.
