I have a random idea of creating a VR chat styled roblox game however I am unsure how I would be able to allow users to create custom (VR chat styled) avatars whilst following the roblox terms of service. Does anyone have any feedback on this concept?
This sounds like an awesome idea, but I think the best way to go about this would simply be to implement something like Royal High or even Roblox Highschool, where the player can import their own textures on top of already existing items (Roblox Highschool), or you could go the route of Royal High, where there are tons of pre-made clothes that you can just customize and wear however you want, and I also recommend having a way to access the Roblox catalog so you can use Roblox hats on your in-game avatar as well, because who doesn’t love Roblox-made hats? Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck no matter what way you decide to go about this, and I hope to see this idea turn into an actual game one day as well!
EDIT: In terms of moderating NSFW or bypassed avatars since it’s inevitable, I recommend just adding a simple report feature either in-game or on a discord server so you can actually see if the avatar has broken any rules and the player needs to be moderated or not.
Thanks man! I like the idea of allowing players to import their own textures as it would likely result in the most creative avatars, is there some sort of API I can utilize so that roblox moderates the content rather than having to hire a content approval team?
EDIT: ahh alright thanks man!
I am not sure what the best way to go about it would be, but I think the simplest and easiest way would be, again, kind of similar to Roblox High School, where they just have the players use Roblox decals and their ID to “re-texture” items or even just a color wheel to completely recolor an item in just one solid color!
I’d say refer to this gamepass and game to get a better idea of how you might be able to implement it on your own:
Unlocked Avatar Editor - Roblox
Robloxian High School - Roblox
PS: Sorry if my examples/explanations aren’t the best
