WARNING: You're about to uncopylock your game

We DESPERATELY need this feature!
I woke up this morning just to realize one of my confidential projects had been uncopylocked the whole night.
I never touched the copylock stuff, I never do. But somehow it has ofc been clicked.

Its every developers worst nightmare. A chance to loose years of work without even getting the smallest hint or warning.
There should be a warning every time you update a place that is uncopylocked saying:

WARNING: You’re about to uncopylock your game!

And you have to approve it for the game to save.

For added security it would be handy if we also got an email confirmation.

That would be a bit much just to upload a place, don’t you think?[/quote]
I mean doing this

Support. Two of my older games have been released to the public before because of accidents like these. I’d love to have this implemented.

This is exactly the same problem I had with my game not too long ago:

Do you think it’s just a coincidence or there may actually be something going wrong on ROBLOX’s end?

What weird is that I created a game on an alternative (Game Jam) and I had no idea mine was uncopylocked, and then after I updated it a couple of times my friend literally had my exact game, and I said HOW? My game was uncopylocked! I didn’t even remember enabling that :P.

Losing years of work? Don’t you think that’s somewhat of an exaggeration?

No. crazyblox lost five years of work with flood escape. This could happen to any game – Dued1 could lose 7 years of work with Pizza Place, Gus could lose however many years Apoc has been around, and generally all of the other places on the front page could lose ~1 year of work because they tried to publish their game to a test version (as to not mess with the real version) and oops it was uncopylocked so anyone can download the game.

It doesn’t even matter if it’s an exaggeration or not, your work is still out there for other people to claim when you accidentally make your game uncopylocked.

It doesn’t even matter. Once your game is put up for grabs, that asset id is up for grabs forever because ROBLOX saves that asset version and marks it as uncopylocked. My friend had this happen to him.

EDIT: Why does that matter? Because you can fetch it at any time.

Not sure who you’re responding to, but this feature is to prevent you accidentally putting your game up for grabs in the first place

We can just merge this with that Moderation Help thread. Here’s an idea. Let’s all PM JParty asking for this. On the Dev forums that is.

Anyone else up for it? I don’t want to be the only person to message him.

well, I mean you dont lose anything, if anything its the opposite of losing something. but yes I understand what you mean.

It all belongs to roblox anyway.

If you know what he meant then why did you nitpick what he said? If we’re getting super technical: “A chance for years of your own hard work to be accessible to any random user and no longer original and unique”*

This is a no-brainer. It’s code complete, I just need to get it through code review and it’ll be on the main website soon.

:woohoo:

@Merely: Well, there’s also the other issue of publishing to an existing place that’s uncopylocked. I’ve never accidentally uncopylocked my place before, but I have started a few projects and then published them to an uncopylocked place unknowingly.

Solution: On uncopylocked places overlay an open padlock on the item. The bottom right would be a good place to put it.

An easily-missed, tiny icon in the bottom right wouldn’t accomplish its purpose of making it very clear that you’re publishing to an uncopylocked place. In the picture I posted, the transparent open padlock makes it very clear that you’re publishing to an uncopylocked place, and it doesn’t get in the way of the thumbnail so you can still see what place you’re publishing to. It looks weird without the border imo, and an aggressive color such as yellow/orange/red as the border hurts my eyes and makes it seem ugly / like uncopylocked is a bad thing. The yellow-green seemed like the best color to make it. The border might look better if it fades out as it gets closer to the edge, but I didn’t try that.

When you hover over a thumbnail, it might be desirable for the uncopylocked overlay to be hidden – if so, it should be when the thumbnail is hovered over and not hidden by default and shown when you mouse over the thumbnail because someone might quickly click the thumbnail and oops published to uncopylocked place.

(@Echo’s problem) Just putting another alternative I was thinking of, saves a trip to the site to manually adjust settings: (default is ticked, and just a quick example of course)
