We’re updating Heads!

They are putting them offsale. You can opt out with your current classic faces, but I have this feeling that they are only doing this because of the spent robux put on faces. I feel like with the way Roblox does things nowadays, they would most definitely take away classic faces if money wasn’t put into them.

Will all, or at least most classic faces get dynamic heads? And will we be able to mix and match head shapes with faces? I’m really hoping that I’ll get to keep how my face looks and my head shape with dynamic heads, because I’m sure dynamic heads will be forced eventually.

Animated faces are a great thing to have. But I feel like classic faces should always be here to stay. Roblox should be doing more to encourage people to use animated faces and r15 instead of removing or hardly supporting the classic faces/R6 and i feel like they are missing a massive market and their player base. Lets hope they keep classic faces. because it would be a horrible idea to down right remove them. some times less is more.

yeah a lot of these combos will be absolutely ruined now, because the chins are much bigger for some reason, and the eyes are lower down.

[How did you get access to the new face btw?]

EDIT: I answered my own question, you have to buy them, although i wonder if roblox will be greedy and force people who already own these classic heads to buy the animated heads?

This is honestly a horrible feature, not only is there no way to test the camera tracking without using roblox studio (so non developers/animators can’t even see this feature yet) its genuinely just bad.
Heres my avatar with an animated face.

everything looks off, my jaw is digging into my chest, my hairline gets pushed back because of how humongous the head is, and the toothpick is literally levitating wayyy above my mouth.

and heres the normal avatar, man face used for comparison (I dont think anyone would unironically use man face).

the toothpick is still above my mouth, but it isnt as bad. Equally, the hairline doesnt look as pushed back because the head is actually normal size. Not to mention how better R6 is to R15 but thats a different can of worms.

and finally, just for comparisons sake, my actual avatar

I have little to no accessories on, and this “update” would still mess up my avatar. Imagine what it would be like for people with entire landmasses on their heads, or people who use hair combos.
this is an all around terrible update, and it makes me wonder why roblox even does stuff like this anymore.

This is a dumb move to force people to use the new heads.

They care about their investors more so than the actual userbase

It takes a user base to even have investors. I think Roblox can make booth happy. They seem just so close to making booth the users and the investors happy. but for some reason they always sort of mess it up. Or at least never give enough clarity. Roblox has never replied to any of my concerns. The best I got was my good idea of dynamic decals getting taken down for being in the wrong category. And 3 days of no message from mods or staff on anyway they can help me. You have to be a massive Roblox drama youtuber to even get your ideas considered sadly. I hope Roblox steps up their game soon.

Alright, I’m gonna need to talk about this. Something people keep bringing up here is that they’re doing this to “please investors”. I keep seeing people bring this up time and time again in order to explain Roblox’s terrible decision-making process.

Seriously guys - how is doing something that makes the entire community angry something that pleases investors? How is it that REMOVING things pleases investors? It doesn’t please these people, in fact it can do the opposite. There have been many people who invested in Roblox that were immediately baffled by Roblox’s lack of communication with the community.

We need to stop trying to point at scapegoats and instead just realize that Roblox are EXTREMELY delusional when it comes to what the community wants to see.

They’re delusional by appeasing the middle-aged investors that have no connection towards the platform they’re putting money into. If these people see “”“innovation”“”, they won’t care about what’s being sacrificed for it.

And considering the employees are too cowardly to even make a passing comment on this post, it really shows how devoted they are. Especially with the link above showing more faces that can be taken offsale for this terrible idea.

edit: and yes i absolutely agree that roblox is delusional. just that the investors are as well. but that’s normal.

Anyone else remember when Roblox used to say that they wouldn’t force updates on us?
Anyone else remember when Roblox cared about their community?
Does anyone at Roblox understand that they will please their stockholders more if they have a good relationship with their community?
It’s stupid decisions like these that are pushing me away from the platform as a player and a user trying to become a developer

So this basically means all the classic faces could be gone within another week or two, this whole situation is a lot worse than it seems.

I really don’t know why 2D classic faces can’t exist co-dependently, but that’s Roblox as usual.

there is quite literally no point in this existing. it serves zero purpose. it should be removed now.

On the surface, this update seems fine. Not necessarily something I would make use of, but I can respect the application that this could provide to a digital space such as Roblox.

However, this update is ruined due to the fact that in light of this change, many classic faces have been taken offsale, including the default smile, chill face, check it and worst of all, The Winning Smile… :worried:

Now I am all for new features, as I have said previously, but I find the way Roblox has sought to increase adoption of said new feature, (that is, removing classic faces from sale and replacing them with dynamic heads), completely unacceptable. There was genuinely no need offsale faces that have been on the platform for longer than a decade in some cases. And it’s not like the alternatives are any better. While they are animated, they aren’t completely the same as their originals, which breaks lots of outfits and look like cheap copies you’d find in a Roblox clone. In addition, these dynamic heads are ludicrously expensive. Seriously, 120 Robux for a strange remake of a free face is nothing but a rip-off. The Winning Smile is a staple of modern Roblox culture, and has gained a cult following both on the platform and off (myself included), and to take it offsale is nothing short of nonsensical.

This move seems to accomplish two main things; force adoption of, what seems to be, a lackluster feature (as I have seen very few dynamic heads out in Roblox except for default characters), as well as punish new/free-to-play players by removing multiple free items that can be used to customize avatars.

Again, this new feature seems fine. Very technically impressive and has lots of uses in a quickly growing online space, but why do the classic faces need to go?

One of the best features of Roblox, in my opinion, has always been freedom and self-expression. No matter who you are, you can visit Roblox and create your character to be just what you want it to be. A superhero, pirate, whatever. And part of this self-expression is choices. You can choose what hats you use, what clothes you wear, and what facial expression you use. Removing already existing faces takes away the freedom to make these choices, and forces players to pick an option that they may feel doesn’t allow them to be properly represented in a digital space. I’m sure there’s people out there who love dynamic faces, and really enjoy the animated look inside of games. That’s great! But there’s also many who do not wish to use animated faces. They should at least get the option to pick classic faces over newer ones if they so choose…

I can only hope this decision is reverted.

  • Must be toggleable!!

It’s nice to see innovation but don’t push us out of legacy faces. This ruins a lot of avatars.

Holy heck this is disappointing! If they’re going to make a change this big, they should at least give us an option to either keep the old faces or switch to the new ones. This facial animation is really being forced on us I see. It’s whatever, I guess. Just like the previous bad updates, we will get through this one. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Usually I can support Roblox in their more stupid updates, but this is just unsupportable.

Who asked for this? Who does this help? What does making the classic faces offsale achieve?

Not a single person wants this update. Its pretty stupid that you’re taking free regular heads offsale, sloppily, and I mean sloppily remaking them in 3d, and selling them for upwards of 100 robux.

This is quite possibly the worst update in terms of logic, it’s illogical, its stupid, it shouldn’t have been done in the first place.
