Today is the day the community starts buzzing about another update from Roblox, specifically the Avatar team, and this one is causing quite a stir: the “Dynamic Heads.” It’s a big deal, like seeing YouTube shorts or TikTok videos uploaded by Roblox social media accounts, but it’s all about the relationship between 2D and 3D.
After reading the announcement, it seems that the Avatar team plans to update the popular faces on the Roblox Marketplace to support facial expressions through emotes and real-time camera tracking, but with some limitations. If you’re 13+, you can fully express yourself using your camera. But if you’re under 13, you’re limited to using emotes related to Roblox events or generic ones.
The update aims to roll out to the most active users by the end of the month, updating all heads to support the new face designs that will be available soon. To get an idea of how it might look, you can check out avatars like @FACEGURU in the Catalog Avatar Creator.
Now, here’s where the real commotion starts. Some of the 2D faces are being taken off-sale, and this has caused quite an uproar in the community. More than 600+ replies flooded the topic in just a few hours, and people are expressing shock and disgust.
While I can understand the concern of some creators, like @FileSaved, @younite, @biscuitify, and @xyrafrost (not just because she’s my friend), I have to agree with @xyrafrost’s point about having classic faces included in new bundles along with the dynamic ones, all for one price. It would give users the freedom to choose how they want to express themselves without any issues.
Personally, I think Roblox should avoid separate heads entirely. Instead, they could offer an option to wear classic faces with any head choice and give users the bonus of being able to animate or keep it static. This way, it would be more efficient and without any unnecessary problems.
These are my thoughts on the matter, and I welcome everyone’s perspective, whether they agree or disagree. Respect for all opinions is essential in a vibrant community like ours.
