We’re updating Heads!

Today is the day the community starts buzzing about another update from Roblox, specifically the Avatar team, and this one is causing quite a stir: the “Dynamic Heads.” It’s a big deal, like seeing YouTube shorts or TikTok videos uploaded by Roblox social media accounts, but it’s all about the relationship between 2D and 3D.

After reading the announcement, it seems that the Avatar team plans to update the popular faces on the Roblox Marketplace to support facial expressions through emotes and real-time camera tracking, but with some limitations. If you’re 13+, you can fully express yourself using your camera. But if you’re under 13, you’re limited to using emotes related to Roblox events or generic ones.

The update aims to roll out to the most active users by the end of the month, updating all heads to support the new face designs that will be available soon. To get an idea of how it might look, you can check out avatars like @FACEGURU in the Catalog Avatar Creator.

Now, here’s where the real commotion starts. Some of the 2D faces are being taken off-sale, and this has caused quite an uproar in the community. More than 600+ replies flooded the topic in just a few hours, and people are expressing shock and disgust.

While I can understand the concern of some creators, like @FileSaved, @younite, @biscuitify, and @xyrafrost (not just because she’s my friend), I have to agree with @xyrafrost’s point about having classic faces included in new bundles along with the dynamic ones, all for one price. It would give users the freedom to choose how they want to express themselves without any issues.

Personally, I think Roblox should avoid separate heads entirely. Instead, they could offer an option to wear classic faces with any head choice and give users the bonus of being able to animate or keep it static. This way, it would be more efficient and without any unnecessary problems.

These are my thoughts on the matter, and I welcome everyone’s perspective, whether they agree or disagree. Respect for all opinions is essential in a vibrant community like ours.

666 very scary

Still, my friend got 17 MESSAGES because of valuable faces. However, it’s not our choice. It’s roblox’s choice. I mean, I like the update, but some of the new ones are plain garbage and they should just keep classic faces.
i swear i turned replies for this topic off

It would be nice if they actually made it work decent. The only head that I like right now is this one. You know why? Because it represents how I and many others feel about this update.

This post got flooded so fast within 24 hours, and peoples opinions got way more likes than the actual post. That’s how bad this update actually is. Roblox, I hope you actually read this feedback.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the idea. I think the heads we’re already fine beforehand. They don’t really need to be updated to something that just looks generic and boring. This is my opinion, though.

Yeah there aren’t many dynamic heads for the “standard” head shape and the old Stevie one was my favourite out of them.

Lets goooo. I don’t really have a problem with this at all! Hopefully I get to see the in-game reactions of people playing my horror game with these finally enabled!
The dynamic heads look pretty much the same as the classic heads but having an option to disable all head animations via the avatar would be nice though.

I just want to ask Roblox to not phase out or offsale the CLASSIC avatar items like the face because that’s all we remember from the last 17 years of Roblox. We know that players’ views on these changes are divided as some want to be classic and others want to upgrade.

I agree. When using things like the animated man head or women head, or squiggling out ect. They have the iconic faces (Although a bit off) they are stuck to one head which creates a lot of problems. if animated faces where a separate thing from dynamic heads. and could use any face on any head. It would be a lot less of a problem.

I have no problem if you want to add the option for Dynamic Heads, but removing normal options is 100% a misstep.

Forcing people to use knock-off versions of faces you locked away from the community is complete garbage, and only serves to push people away from Dynamic Heads. The only way you could possibly fix this is by bundling classic faces with a dynamic version, Instead of making people pay at a higher price for something they already have.

It is very hypocritical to preach about self-expression and then remove our options.
If you want this platform to truly be “Community Driven”, We have to work together on updates like this to ensure everyone is happy.

for the love of god, do not take the original faces off sale, people don’t like the animated faces, there I said it, it’s a truth you have to face, for the love of god do not make the original faces off sale and let them be obtainable and useable, this is a horrible idea all around.

Gosh, 600 replies within ~ 1 day of this post being released. Guess people are not happy.

Besides it being slightly obvious that the camera function of dynamic heads won’t be used by the majority, and it being used for inappropriate purposes, Roblox did the one thing they promised never to do - to force users to switch to “more realistic” avatars.

Guess most people are angrier about the fact that the cheap classic faces were made offsale, with their dynamic head counterpart costing 3-5 times more expensive.

Roblox constantly pushes for a more realistic approach for avatars because they don’t want to be known as “that lego game” anymore- it looks better to investors if they put out new technologies, in this case it being the avatar features like rthro, layered clothing, and these dynamic heads. That looks good to shareholders and brings in more investors.

When rthro and LC came out, it was merely an option, and when it was done well, it was used by the player base because it allowed for better self expression and some super creative avatars. People actually used the new technologies they put out.
When these dynamic heads came out- they were done poorly. They look nothing like their original classic faces counterparts, face items don’t align with them properly, and in some case just look uncanny or creepy. Not many people ended up using these new heads (another new tech they put out) and now it just almost feels like they’re forcing these dynamic heads on everyone because nobody uses them.

Why would you put The Winning Smile off-sale! That was a very iconic face on ROBLOX, and you’re going get much hate for taking it offsale. #SaveTheWinningSmile.

Just to make it clear how god awful these new faces are at representing the classics, here is the Chill Face and the ill fcae

No offense to the developers, but these look pretty bad and are really crummy compared to regular faces. They look really unnatural and don’t really much resemble the faces they originate from, not to mention that they would conflict with avatars designed to set a mood, like mine.

I think this update was more or less pushed by a board exec’s desire to be technically impressive rather than practical, as proven by the fact that the UGC catalog is flooded with custom 2D faces, even though Dynamic Faces are technically already available. Not to mention, Roblox still hasn’t even enabled the ability for UGC creators to make their own 2D faces to avoid the accessory catalog from being flooded.

I would not be quite as averse to this update were it not for the fact that Roblox has started putting legacy Classic Faces off-sale to try and push users into using the dynamic ones instead. I’m all for new features as long as they aren’t erasing history, and while those faces can still be accessed by those who bought them, retroactively putting them off-sale is not okay with me. Those faces should still be available for purchase by anyone who wants to use them, they have been around for years, and I’m sure many future users would rather have an alternative that doesn’t look slightly off, nor forcibly emotes when using an animation.

I would happily welcome this update, despite my personal dislike for it, if this was not the case. However, that is the case, and that definitely makes me doubt that this update was made with any sort of preservation in mind.

I would strongly advise the people responsible for this update to reconsider their approach of removing the classic, 2D versions of the faces that are being updated.

I Believe just in the past hour roblox has updated the defualt avatars to be NO longer bacon hairs and are now replaced with random rthro or dynamic head characters, ive seen everyone in outrage over this.

Why are you changing and forcing these on new roblox players now ?, Your Ruining the platform with these awfully made ugly heads that dont match any accessorys whats so ever. There overpriced rubbish with poor choice and have creepy odd designs. Your ruining classic faces and classic default avatars just so your little metaverse show can go on ?!, with all this immersive experience stuff it still shows you want to be a metaverse so honestly I’m sure the departments are disfunct if one says different than the other.

Its such an awful move and I’m so disappointed at how roblox has managed this, putting out a devforum post and releasing these awful features suddenly with no input from any developers or creators or even the general community. Its a shame that roblox has continued to decline and replace these default treasures which they said THEY WOULDNT Do but well roblox lied to us again for the millionth time this year.

Its getting beyond a joke now and roblox really need to rethink who runs this platform, i would be concerned by now as its beyond me. How are they getting away with this, its downright awful.
