We should reorganize the DevForum Main Page

Hello Roblox developers, thank you for taking the time to read my post! In this post, I would like to discuss an issue that I find problematic with the Roblox developer forums.

It appears that Roblox promotes topics based on replies rather than using an organized system that prioritizes help topics. As a developer myself, I understand the frustrations and challenges that can arise when creating intricate and immersive environments and encountering issues.

I believe there are a few reasons why support topics receive less attention:

  1. The developer forum lacks organization.
  2. The sheer volume of posts in other areas, such as scripting or game design, can overshadow unanswered topics and related discussions, making them harder to find.

To address this issue, I propose a few potential solutions

  1. We should prioritize help topics over discussions and tutorials.
  2. We should organize the developer forum better

An example of how unanswered posts can be bumped all the way down very quickly:

The list should be structured as follows:

[TOP] Announcements
[MIDDLE] Topics related to scripting, building, GUI design, and art
[LOWEST] Developer discussion posts and tutorials

The first section would contain announcements relevant to the entire Roblox community. The second section would cover issues related to scripting, building, UI design, and so on. Finally, the last section would include discussions on various topics and tutorials. The development section should only consist of unsolved issues and prioritize topics with the fewest answers at the top to assist those in need. The discussion and announcement topics can continue using the current system, where topics with more replies are bumped to the top.

  • Please note that it wouldn’t be one comprehensive list but rather three separate lists that can be expanded or collapsed. Additionally, there should be a “load more topics” button after a certain number of posts to avoid clutter and allow easy navigation between sections.

This system gives priority to important help topics that require expertise while keeping discussion topics and tutorials visible and easily accessible.

Currently, the order is as follows:

[TOP] Announcements, developer discussion posts and tutorials
[MIDDLE] scripting
[LOWEST] Topics related to building, GUI design, and art

Topics are bumped based on the number of responses received. Usually, discussion posts receive a significant amount of replies, pushing them to the top. Since the platform primarily consists of scripters (based on surveys), it is evident that scripting posts will be next in line. Lastly, other posts related to building help, GUI, and other topics follow. Our current system can quickly push help topics down, especially if they are not scripting-related.

  • I like these solutions.
  • It’s good, but it needs changes. Here’s what else: (reply)

I really like this concept. Having the important stuff on top and having the “less important stuff” on the bottom.

And you’d still be able to sort thru based on the topic so yeah I think this would be a great update.

Also I fixed the bad grammar so the poll got reset

I like this idea. Tutorials and resources being at the bottom allows for people who want it to look for it, but if they don’t know what to do, they can browse the help topics.

Always name your polls!

I wonder why there hasn’t been any kind of response by roblox. @Roblox

If you don’t like it don’t look at latest topics and just find them through the homepage. This is about as organized as it gets.

uh roblox dont have the time to look at those

They’re not the latest topics if they go based on reply count and bump unsolved issues to the bottom. This isn’t about whether you or me look at the main page, it’s about the fact that a lot of people who help people look at the main page. If you post an issue, the current system is designed to not get you a solution.

I am simply offering a new system which makes the main page more efficient without relying on using sub categories. I do not see any issues with that and saying “Just dont look at the main page” and “roblox doesnt have time for suggestions” is closed minded and a bad mindset.

Just use the categories view by default, problem solved.

Hello, thank you for your feedback.I understand your concern about just using the categories view by default but its not fair to say that is a solution.

Firstly, I think its fair to say a significant amount of people on devforums use the main page and not categories view.

Secondly, we already talked about this and the reason this wont work is because my issue is not whether you or me use the main page, its about whether the people who are giving us help on posts we create use the main page.

Like I talked about before, its fine for you to do whatever you want, but claiming that is a solution is not valid.

Becuase we already talked about this, I assume you want them to remove the main page and force categories view by default.

I would like to inform you that this option is really bad.

One solution I possibly see is the default for Discourse, and what meta.discourse.org does:

It shows both categories, and latest all in one.

Its too confusing. I have never used it before and it seems like there is a learning curve. Also why does roblox ignore our feedback feature suggestions? I am kind of angry at roblox that other platforms listen to their devs but they just ignore us. Like if they think its bad can a roblox moderator at least respond.

Literally like a few hours after someone posts something related to this

already community moderators are taking action but here roblox hates us

I checked out that topic, seems to be unrelated to this one

It is similar because both topics are asking for revision regarding their forums.
