Weird lines inside the model

Hello! When I import my model into Roblox Studio, weird lines appear and I don’t know how to fix it.

I tried to add more edges, but it didn’t help

This is an issue with your shading.

If you’re using Blender, which I’m assuming you are, try using Shade Smooth or Shade Auto Smooth. If that doesn’t help, make sure that the geometry isn’t densely packed at the seams.

I’m already using Shade Auto Smooth and I tried to use Shade Smooth, but it makes no difference.

Same thing happens even with default Sphere in Blender when I import it into Roblox Studio.
I also tried to use Subdivision Surface, but it didn’t help.

Then this is either a bug or maybe an issue with the way you’re importing the meshes? Does this happen with meshes from the toolbox as well or in other games?

I import the meshes as FBX file like most people, so I don’t think the problem is the way I import it, and yes, some meshes from Toolbox have same issue.

Meshes don’t have this issue on the outside, only on the inside.

Try Recalculating Normals

I already tried, but didn’t help.

Did you try both “Inside” and “Outside”?

This is odd because you said subdividing a sphere still produces the same result. Normally, any mesh with proper topology shouldn’t have this issue.

i mean it seems to be caused by ambient occlusion but that should only occur at the strong geometrical seams in this case, not rounded corners (inside or outside a mesh). either that or it’s a lighting issue.

try searching up any high poly (or just regular) sphere on the toolbox and tell me if they have this issue as well.

Yes.

Every sphere I found on the Toolbox have the same issue.

And here’s another one of my models with the same issue inside:

(This model is also smoothed)

I think I remember seeing something similar on the forum before. Try going to Studio settings and changing the mesh quality level or something along those lines.

Reducing the graphics quality in both Studio and the game helps to hide this issue, but I don’t think it’s really a solution to my problem.

-- This is caused by Roblox’s janky screenspace ambient occlusion. Unfortunately they still refuse to let us disable it so there’s not much you can do without altering the model.

-- First, check to make sure those faces aren’t flat shaded by mistake.
-- Second, I believe this rendering issue could also be caused by ambient occlusion bleeding through the model (that’s just a guess though.) If you used a solidify modifier in Blender, try increasing the thickness and see if that helps.
-- If you also want you can try just disabling shadows on the model entirely, if I recall correctly that also disables SSAO on that object.

I already tried turning off the shadows, but unfortunately that doesn’t help.
Increasing or decreasing the thickness doesn’t help either.

There seems to be no solution to my problem

-- Have you tried applying the solidify modifier before exporting? Also again as I said this is an issue with Roblox’s ambient occlusion, it’s not really something you can control beyond working your models around it.

Yes, I tried to do that.

Thanks for trying to help, I’ll mark your reply as the solution because you confirmed my theory that it’s Roblox’s fault.
