Weird union shading glitch

For a few weeks now, my weapons (Which use unions) have some weird looking spots. Changing the smoothing angle doesn’t work and the only way to fix it is to seperate and then reunion the parts, but that will mess up the weapon joints. I believe this was an old bug that somehow made it’s way back to Roblox.

Sometimes this happens when unioning parts too.

Do you experience this issue when building other structures too such as unioning doors and windows to buildings?

It very rarely happens when unioning. But the issue usually happens when changing smoothingangle.

I think I may be able to help. Do you find it annoying when trying to union objects such as windows and doors with walls and wall trims?

I never use unions unless I am making weapons.

I see. Doors and windows can be annoying for mant builders. Have you heard of the bloxburg building tools?

Export the mesh from roblox then open it in Blender. In Blender select the mesh and enable shade smooth. Then export it back to Roblox.

It isn’t a mesh. Also, my unions contain parts with multiple different colors. Converting to mesh would make the union one solid color.

I heard unions have some sort of “primary part”. I don’t know how to check the part though. So something may mess up if I try to reunion.

Unions tend to do this since they aren’t optimized well and don’t always work properly.

Assuming you don’t want to use blender, try experimenting with the order of parts unioned. Sometimes that has worked for me, but it’s rather tedious. I personally recommend just putting it in blender, turning it into a mesh, and fixing it in there. When imported back to studio, it should fix all lighting issues.

Also taking the multiple colors in mind, you could simply texture it in Blender using a colormap with the same colors.

One of the main reasons why I never use studio’s unions (I am a Blender user).

I recommend you start to use blender

yeah probably is the only way
(Unless u export to blender and reimport maybe?)

Im not sure how you are making the joints but RigEditLite makes it easy to add and edit joints and welds so it might make the process easier?
