Welcoming Byfron to Roblox

I think it’s safe to say nobody knows exactly what this new anti cheat will do and more importantly how it will work.

Previous anti cheats made by Byfron are designed to work for very specific games — porting something like this over to a platform like Roblox most likely requires a completely different approach on how cheats are detected. The best thing we can all do is be patient and wait to see what Roblox has to say.

I have got no idea. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t

Yeah well, I’d be really damn disappointed if RoShade would be marked as an exploit. But I guess we’ll have to see. Hopefully this isn’t another messup.

People are skeptical because there is no transparency on ‘Byfron’, at least appearing to me.

Their website illustrates no footage, no transparency or any sort of agenda.

To combat exploits, it entirely lies on Roblox and not on Byfron or any of that big talk.
The CoreGui issue is one example where Roblox has limited access to developers hence exploit GUIs still find their way around.

A breakdown & transparency on the potential influence of anti-cheat capabilities applied to Roblox would be appreciated, some behind-the-scenes maybe.

Additionally, it also lies on Roblox and on you to invest some thinking, like seriously, you should educate or at least remind people of securing the connection between client and server e.g. by conditional checks.

I have zero trust on this one. Really just gives me more of a reason of being skeptical since those threads are just all talk.
We all know ( and should ! ) that relying on an IP address can cause more harm than good especially with false positives and workarounds ESPECIALLY on a platform vastly contributed by children.

Account age requirements? Unreliable.
Phone number requirements? Unless your game is dedicated to an older audience, this seems VERY unrealistic and unreliable so why even think of it.
Cookies? Browser fingerprint? I dunno.

Bear in mind that creating an account on Roblox is free so you barely make a game changing decision here. :smiley_cat:

BTW, Does this affect Admin Systems that have features such as teleporting and changing walkspeed?? If so, this would break a damn lot of features included in Admin Systems… I’m not sure what I should think about this

Probably not since it’s already implemented in your game without injecting anything.

I think its going to be on your pc like easy anti cheat running in the background but I’m not sure well have to wait and see

Well yeah that would suck, because I use RoShade to make my game look better. Just hope that the anti-cheat doesn’t think it’ an exploit.

I’m really happy that we are finally getting a proper anti-cheat. We’ve needed this for years.

Unfortunately, it’s time for me to criticize some of the problems I have with this post, it makes me a bit concerned for Roblox’s future.

Please don’t tell me you’re planning on client-side stuff. By implementing client-side anti cheat, we could expect lower frame rates in experiences which is crucial for competitive gaming, which you’ve mentioned the team is passionate about.

Also, what will implementing client-side anti cheat do for Linux support? I’m aware that not all anti-cheats works well on Linux (Valve’s Steam Deck made a huge push into changing this though).

Clarification is needed on this immensely. Until we get clarification, I won’t make any comments, but this could be bad.

RoShade is not considered to be an exploit, it mostly just changes the look in your game.

Well yeah, but if this System is stupid, the menu to customize the looks of your game, might be recognized as a cheat menu. Who knows. Until this update is out, I’m 50/50. On one side, I’m happy that they recognize the cheating issue, on the other hand I am worried that this will break lots of features, and ban innocent players, considering Roblox’s track record.

Anyone can easily change their IPV6 address by re-booting their mobile phone.

Not gonna lie this may be the best update in 2020 - 2022, cheating has always been an issue here in Roblox, it’s good to see that actions are being taken on this matter.

(Depending how this is implemented of course)

Hopefully not. This would be an extremely flawed anticheat if it didn’t listen to API calls (such as teleporting) done on the server, and flags it as cheating. That’d be just stupid.

I agree! Hopefully, they spend a lot of time on this and execute it well to prevent the exploiting problem.

This sounds like incredible news, hopefully it will put an end to chat bots and exploiters, however i really hope there will be options to turn off/customize some of the features of the new anticheat

That’d be really stupid. And it would once again cause outrage, and Roblox would just ignore us, as they always do.

It does modify some of files, but as long it doesn’t change the gameplay it is not considered to be an exploit. For now we have to wait and then we’ll see.

Well yeah, it changes some files as you said, but it doesn’t give you any unfair advantages.

If they did that it would probably break like 9/10 games, so I highly doubt it’ll be that bad. But I feel they would listen to us if they casually broke most of the games on the platform.
