Wet Ground Effect

image

I’m trying to see if it is actually possible to achieve the puddle effect in the picture above. I’ve seen tons of posts about it, but they all basically say: You can’t.

I’m trying to make realistic puddles that reflect the world around them, yet still have the grittiness. Any tips on what I could do?

You can use a pbr texture with the roughness changed in various patches to make it look wetter.

Problem is… I suck at texturing, and I’m even worse at PBR. I was hoping to find some way of doing this via modeling.

why not just texture it
if you suck then learn it, if you do it with modeling it will greatly impact your performance and the water won’t look realistic cause if you use glass or smooth plastic they look fake

texturing is a valuable skill to learn too

Other than Substance Painter (or any paid texturing software), what would you recommend for texturing?

Blender is free, and you can bake the textures in it.

I’ve never really thought blender as a good texture software, mostly modeling. I use it on a daily basis, so I’ll look into it

Alright, so I found a good replacement for people who can’t texture:

I aligned a very transparent layer of water with the ground.

Here are the settings:

theres a free student license for substance painter for a year (you can create a new account once it expires and it will work)

How would I renew it once the year was up?

Edit: Just saw the next line, but I probably won’t do that, as overtime it would cause clutter
