What are API Keys on the creator dashboard?

This may or may not be the wrong place to post this because im confused on where I should post this.

In the creator dashboard, I saw something that said “API Keys”, what are those for?

it says:

to programmatically access resources using Roblox Platform APIs

if you look through the page for creating an API key, it shows that you can use it in accessing datastores, messaging service, and publishing places
