I am creating a story game right now and I just hit a roadblock. Game passes. A lot of story games usually have the same game passes like flashlights that sometimes do nothing or teddy bears that give little to no health. So I was wondering, what type of game passes would you like to see that is different (in a good way :).
Here are some of my ideas:
- a type of food that regenerates health or gives a speed boost
- a weapon to fight whatever the bad creature is
- maybe something that lets them see through walls for a certain amount of time
- something that makes them invisible for a certain amount of time

like a med kit that can heal everyone.
What about a tool that lets you revive someone like a medkit and gives them another chance

Maybe an item that hints a player towards different endings,
for example if there was two endings, the bad ending and the good ending, and the player wanted the good ending, then it would give a few instructions or directions on what to do to achieve it.
how would the hint work? Would like an NPC give instructions for getting a certain ending?

hmm ok then. this sounds like a very sweet idea. So could this feature be free or like a gamepass. Allow players to use hints at certain times. (for people that own the gamepass)
it could be for like in game currency or a developer product, so they can’t just always get the endings they like, but instead pay for the hints

It’s easier to have a good gamepass in story games because it’s not player vs player, but don’t let them ruin the fun of the gameplay.
How about a treat basket gamepass? Gamepass owners get a basket full of treats from some NPC every game and they can choose 3 players to give smaller treat baskets to, and they heal health.

For game passes, I believe it is good for a game to avoid pay to win mechanics, as they will drive away free to play users. I would encourage doing gamepasses that allow for more cosmetic things - like a gamepass that gives you a new set of materials that look different from others to build houses with, one that allows more hair colors, one that gives a set of weapon skins, and so forth.
