I know that Glue is a deprecated way to hold 2 parts together, but I’ve always wondered about Studs, Inlets, and Universal. What purpose do they serve? Are they just for looks?
All can be anwsered with simple google search, execpt for Universals (I looked up all three). There also a developer hub page for all three, plus more.
Please do some research on your problems before resorting on the community, as most problems already have anwsers somewhere.
It would also be useful to say that, and to write it out, just so it’s easier to find out.
AFAIK, they’re all cosmetic.
You can read about more Surface Types here: SurfaceType | Documentation - Roblox Creator Hub. Some SurfaceTypes also have their own pages.
The API Reference only describes what the surface types look like, not what they do.
They’re used to connect surfaces
Studs connect to Inlets.
Inlets connect to Studs
Universal connects to Inlets and Studs.
As of 2025, you must call :MakeJoints() to connect surfaces with certain types.
These surface types are indeed deprecated and some surface types may not work even when calling MakeJoints, or some may fail to have correct visuals.
