What are the main upsides and drawbacks to R15 and R6?

Hey there devs.

So in my game, there’s a buncha animations (like every other one).
For its entirety of development up to this point, I’ve chosen R6 as its main rig type.
Right now I’ve been torn on whether to keep using R6 or switch to R15.

I made this post to help me decide on which to use. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

(please don’t take the amount of time into developing the game into account I haven’t implemented tool animations yet)

Any kind of helpful response is appreciated!

R15 is just more modern and more common while R6 looks simple and good. I suggest keeping R6.

Rest is up-to you.

From what ive seen r6 is mainly used for 3 reasons

  • aesthetic (looks a certain way, draws a certain audience)
  • less parts to animate
  • personal preference (they think its better)

If you are comfortable with animating more parts, then you could consider r15. Its animations, as previously stated, look more modern. and there are numerous things that r15 can do that r6 cant

  • layered clothing
  • higher texture resolution (r6 compresses textures by a lot)
  • Inverse Kinematics
  • Roblox’s Video to Animation (I’m not sure if this only works on r15 but I think so?)
  • a lot more models to choose from. (not relevant if you will be keeping the models blocky)

Probably a few others too that I just can’t remember. But in the end its up to you!

(you could also get an r15 disguised as a r6 to get the best of everything)
