Yup, the Battlefield games since Bad Company, the one released a year after CoD4, had similar gunplay to CoD4. Battlefield clearly took inspiration from Modern Warfare; what they did is essentially stretch the map and add in vehicles. It’s CoD but with a lot more depth. To say there are no differences between CoD and BF is silly, but to say there aren’t a ton of similarities is also silly.
I didn’t even mention Battlefield, let alone call it a CoD clone. I didn’t say every single FPS out there is a CoD clone, I was specifically referring to his tech demo video. I feel like you didn’t read the paragraph under the list.
What you’re describing is basic core FPS gameplay of a modern shooter. The video he posted is literally titled FPS engine. What the hell do you think an “FPS Engine” is going to try to accomplish? The core game-play elements.
Yes, I’m aware he’s trying to create the core gameplay elements, but Overwatch and Call of Duty have completely different core gameplay elements and their ‘engine testing’ videos would look completely different. Not to mention the guns and map have the exact same modern vibe as CoD. I know it’s just a testing video but in the direction he’s going, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a low-gravity, high-speed lazer rifle game (Quake, Halo) or a character/class-based shooter with a unique theme (Overwatch/TF2). So far he hasn’t shown or mentioned anything that isn’t already in tons of other games like Phantom Forces.
I don’t care what you call the game. It’s been done 1000 times, which is what my original point was. I just don’t think we need anymore generic modern military shooters. It seems like everyone and the mothers saw Phantom Forces success and are rushing to make engine testing videos for more military shooters.
When did you join Roblox? Testing videos have been around since pre-Borderline (if you remember what that is or even know about it). Players have always wanted to create FPS games. It’s just how 12 year old kids are today.
You’ve made a lot of assumptions about aspirations and goals of a person from an “FPS Engine Demo” video. Honestly this is a good thing for ROBLOX because I couldn’t stand it when ROBLOX had FPS games where the guns would not follow when you looked up or down. Competition can only be good.
And perhaps no one cares what you think. There are hundreds of FPS games on consoles/PC out there that are extremely popular, not just Call of Duty. If this guy wants to make one then he can. Phantom Forces is clearly a very popular game and developers want to get into the same market. I suppose It’s okay for your Murder Mystery game to be among Mad Murderer and Twisted Murderer, but god forbid there’s another shooter on ROBLOX. Your negativity is unwarranted and you should have either given him some constructive criticism or said nothing at all.
2008…? What are you actually talking about? This isn’t a discussion about testing videos, this is a discussion about generic shooters trying to bite off Phantom Forces (such as Kinetic Code). I just said testing videos because a lot of these games never get finished and end in that stage.
That’s fine, I welcome and encourage him to prove me wrong.
I agree with that sentence, but it’s not a competition if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table.
And perhaps I don’t care if people care what I think. I’m allowed to post my opinion, so just skip the stupid comments like that.
That’s exactly the problem
That argument would be valid if Murder Mystery wasn’t the first one to be released lol
I gave constructive criticism:
“Don’t make another generic military shooter because you won’t be able to compete with Phantom Forces”.
You don’t make the rules for what I can and can’t post. I’m allowed to have negative opinions, and I’m allowed to post them until forum staff take away that privilege, so don’t try to censor me.
I understand, but that connotation was partially intended although not as harsh. I am genuinely tired of seeing so many people try to make generic shooters, and if there’s nothing unique about it, it will flop.
Also, if someone is scared of a little negativity, DO NOT make a successful game and check your messages or Twitter notifications.
