I’m working on 2 different projects but one project called Night of Horror that I’ve been working on is planned to be inspired by Sega’s The House of The Dead series (particularly the 1st and 2nd games + its remakes). The game will be set in a fictional Scottish town in the year 2018 and involve an outbreak of undead creatures across 5 stages with 4 bosses + 1 mini boss (this will be a reference to the mini boss from The House of The Dead 3) to face off against alongside hordes of the undead. A short 3 stage prologue story which will be set on an estate overrun with the undead is also going to be included which will take place before the town outbreak story.
These screenshots are taken from a work in progress build and do not represent the quality of the final version.
This was supposed to be just a game inspired by Classic roblox game Crossroads (I love exploring jank of a studs map). But 200 doofs liked the game, its even got added to Surreal Game Finder (The creator probably thought this is one of those game where theres a hidden disturbing horror and meaning. But honestly, i just like it wack). So here i am expanding the game as a hobby, and as a love letter to my love for game and game designing
My current direction of the game is making it exploration and boss-rush oriented, influenced by my love of exploration and combat type of game thanks to Outer Wilds, Nine Sols, Ori and the WIll of the Wisps, and Hollow Knight. Where i aim for this game so you can freely explore and meet NPC to race and fight them as a boss with fun and unique moveset. But i acknowledge just how big of a scope for a solo developer so unless i got team or help, i don’t really expect it to finish sooner.
Wiping the dust off of my programming skills. Havent coded anything in what? A year (Probably being too dramatic. Must’ve been a semester. 4 months at best)? Mostly because I never managed to get an idea as to what to code after fully understanding the basics.
Can relate. However, it shouldnt be hard to catch up again. Might need check the documentation and a few places I used as a test to stay sharp again but nothing too bad (same applies to you). Programming is just like learning how to ride a bike.
With that out of the way, I’ve started to (finally) work on a game to help me sharpen again and to step it up. Can’t describe much as I don’t have something set in stone but I want to do something fast-paced. Hoping to get something done before August. My expectations for that game is very low since it’s my first game, but I won’t mind too much since it’s more to learn.
