What are your First Impressions?

Hi,
I have been working on this for a while and just recently published it in Beta.
I’d like some feedback on your first impressions of it.

Here are a few prompts (but feel free to respond however you like!):

  • Does it catch your attention? Look fun to play? Look interesting?
  • Does it look original? Unique?
  • Does it look professional / well-made?
  • What would you say to someone else who asked you about it?
  • What would you do differently and why?

Chimps The Sanctuary

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Maybe make the letters stand out a bit more by making the letter’s shadow a different colour.
I’d also recommend moving the word The down.
I read it as one line “Chimps the sanctuary” and was a bit confused until I saw the words were coloured differently, but very slightly which makes it more difficult to tell apart. Perhaps make the shadow of Chimps a different colour than The Sanctuary.

looks interesting, maybe you can add a black outline to all the text

So I edited the Start Icon, thanks @Scottifly it is easier to read now.

It doesn’t really catch my attention, since the letters are too thin and don’t stand out too much. It does look original and unique though. It doesn’t look professional, since it’s just text over a picture of a forest/jungle, but it looks well-made. I’d tell the person that asked me about this to make the words/letters thicker and stand out more from the background.

@agentphilip07 I definitely know what you mean as the colours blend too well, the text doesn’t ‘pop’.
You can probably tell I’m not a graphic artist!

I’ve noticed that when this comes up amongst a bunch of other game icons it stands out quite well… but in an uncanny way where it almost feels like there is a hole in the wall of bright/bold game icons.
I don’t know if this is a good thing or not, but will see if I can improve on the background to improve its professionalism!
Thanks!

So I updated the image by composing the scene in studio and playing around with lighting and atmospherics.

Any feedback?

The chimp images at the bottom seem to very flat and not lit like the rest of the picture. They look like 2 flat pictures that have been tilted to face the camera.

@Scottifly lol, they are actual models too! Might be the lighting, but yes the faces are decals wrapped on a cylinder head. (Developing properly shaped mesh parts and animations is a whole sub-project I’ve not started yet).
