What audience should I target my game to?

So I have been recently designing a souls-like game and I am only in the phase of planning out the systems and main game loop but I have come to realize that with Roblox’s audience being mostly kids under 13, I would have a very limited audience to work with. I also realized that a majority of players are either on phone or tablet and I could see the combat system being to complex and hard to maneuver on a phone/tablet causing it to be impossible for phone/tablet players to play.

So what I am asking is should I make this targeted toward younger audiences and dumb down the combat system and everything else and make the game more cartoony as well as basically remove the souls-like from it or should I keep going with my idea of a souls-like even though I will have smaller target audience and will have less revenue from the game.

Roblox has a wide and diverse audience. It’s true that most front page games target a younger audience, but you don’t have to follow that model. Games such as Phantom Forces and Tradelands are extremely profitable to this day despite their complexity. If you have a good idea that you are passionate about, create the game, and there is always an audience for a well executed creative idea.

It all comes down to a balance. I don’t know anything about your game, and I definitely don’t know what it’s like to play on a mobile device. You should ask around for feedback.
