What could I add at the edges of the map to make it look better?

I feel like they are pretty empty. I tried adding high terrain but it just looked weird.

What is the map going to be used for?

Well if you look at different terrain maps the edges kind of feature elevation like rocky areas or trees placed around just so those edges wont be to noticeable in a characters view. There’s different approaches you could go for its mainly just elevation so the edges wont look flat and bland looking if you take a look at different creations, made by different developers.

(Terrain maps) you’ll just see the edges either have rocky small hills or something similar to that sometimes the edges are left alone for unknown reasons.

I’ll attach an image below to give you a good overall understanding on what i mean about small elevation hills. Could also do with a lot more trees different plants so the edges wont be to noticeable:

Thank you, I’ll try that

Oh it’s for a hangout, kind of a “vibe” type game
Here’s another picture of it

Add fog or atmosphere and limit where players can go with an invisible wall. You can also place trees in the background to give it that forrest effect.

Terrain isnt the problem i could build a empty room and it wouldnt look good add details like maybe broken town house cause it looks like a horror themed map

Tiny hills in the back would give it a bit more of an infinite look. You could also add trees on the hills.

Heres an example:

You could add another little shack, for those who want some peace and quiet time, and so they aren’t in the hustle and bustle of the main section.

What sort of atmosphere are you trying to set here? Looking at the fog and items you would often find at children’s playgrounds, I assume like a sort of nostalgic feeling of sorts. What I see is that you can have two approaches of this with two very different connotations.

  1. You could build of what the other comments said about using terrain to give this feeling of scale and depth. Using this, you would emphasise freedom and maybe even reflect on life itself in a metaphorical way. Using such could possibly reflect your choices in life and limitless possibility.

  2. The other option that no one has mentioned yet is a wall. It could be any wall, though the choice of your wall is going to have different effects on the players. A nice stone or brick wall could imply a feeling of safety, such as the feeling a child might have with their guardian. Or you could use a large sturdy wall which might limit the player. As I mentioned before, I presume you’re going for something nostalgic, so having such a wall might portray how you cannot change your past.

Either way, it is a good build it it will probably evoke many emotions within players.
