Hey there, I am making a Roblox game which is like the game Friday the 13th (Like flee the facility, but there are lots of escape routes and the killer has some powers) and I am trying to decide what to do while the players are waiting for the game to start.
The players will only ever be waiting for up to 1 minute (unless there is a game going, or they are the only players in the server).
My three options are:
A free roam lobby. This will have a tiny map and just some basic GUI options on the side like below:
A fully GUI based menu. (Sort of like the Fortnite main menu) This will show your selected characters, and have the status (waiting for players) in the bottom right like below:
A mix of both. It would start with the plain GUI, and would have a button like Lobby or something which takes you to the free roam one. And you have to go back to the main menu to change inventory instead.
Please vote in the poll on what you think would be better, and if you have any other opinions please reply!
I would make a roamable lobby so the players can get familiar with the game/area before the game starts, such as making their way around the GUI and understanding how the game works, etc.
The lobby would be a different map compared to the one you are teleported to, and same with the GUIs as they wouldnt show while playing. But I get what you mean.
Oh ok. Another reason, just realized this, the players like to move around and basically explore stuff as a GUI based main menu might be a little boring for them. What Iām saying is players exploring the lobby might make them feel like the time goes faster rather than waiting for a whole minute until the game starts.
In short: It occupies the players more than a GUI based menu may.
Maybe I can have a mix of both, so when you join the game, the main menu pops up and in the bottom right there is a Lobby button that then removes the GUI and shows the free roam one, and then you can go back to the main menu to change your skin.
