Hi! I am working on a game (currently in open alpha testing) called Pinetown. Pinetown is an open world roleplay game similar to that of brookhaven and adopt me. It’s missing many features and has quite a bit of bugs, but I feel that the basic foundation of the game is completed. I am wondering what you think?
With this game I want to build a really interactive story and a good theme that the other roleplay games might not have.
here is a list of things I plan on adding before beta release:
A better tool system (fishing rods and pickaxes)
Props
Adopt me-style pets
Adopt me-style house editing
More SFX and music
A way to make empty plots feel less like so barren (would love advice on how)
Possible map expansion?
Less buggy cars
The game has been in development for about 2 years now and is my first big project! (I’ve been scripting for 4 years, all assets are original by me except the cars made by my friend)
Its a pretty cool game, I think it has potential, but needs just a little more work. Few things I would possibly recommend is to size the UI for the cars, inventory, and the top buttons down just a little bit. The style is good though! Possibly adding more buildings for interactions with players (Schools, stores, etc.), personally I think the terrain needs some editing around the pond. Maybe add a dock, boats? Adding boats may require you to make the pond bigger. Lastly, the sidewalk edges where they curve should be smoothed out whether that’s creating a union or just connecting each corner manually. Other than that its a good starting foundation!
Not a lot of buildings in the map, also every tree looks the same. It’s hard to tell if I’m in the same area or not. It’s no props, I recommend adding flowers, mailboxes, signs, ect just to give the map more personality
Ah, well I’m not much of a UI person so I can’t really give advice there, but I use a tool called Archimedes for curves. I can’t quite tell if that’s what you used or not. You may have to adjust the part to either be bigger or smaller for the angle you are choosing to make. Btw, I just found the buildings so that kind of takes care of the interactive stuff.
Mailboxes are planned, Should I make the trees slightly different colors? they are already sized differently. should I make different kinds of leafs? the tree in Pinetown is sorta part of its whole brand
Yeah I used to run into this issue, but I can’t replicate it at this time. I might be able to and see if I can find a solution and if I find one ill let you know. I used to know of a plugin that would make roads and such but I can’t think of the name anymore.
Yes you should make the trees slightly different colors.you can also make a couple of trees with some cuts in them too if you want, that would add alittle of variety without branching off from the brand
Thats quite a nice tool actually. I see what you mean though. Archimedes isn’t necessarily efficient when you have to constantly stop and adjust the length and size of the part. Curves are just hard to work with in my opinion unless you’re really experienced with working with it. Its not a bad idea to take the approach of that video either. You could make smaller sections of road to provide more connections.
I’ve gone ahead and quickly put this together in studio. The grey would be the smaller sections connected and the tan/orange would be the bigger sections as seen in the video.
This doesn’t really give as smooth as an angle as Archimedes might and it might be just as tedious since you would have to redo all the curves and duplicate each section at different rotations, but it could be a way to fix the problem.
It might require some experimenting to find the perfect curve also.
