What does a simulator need to be a good game?

Currently am making a simulator and I am wondering what the game needs to be fun for the player. I am not sure if its close to being finished so I here is the game link - Brick Lifting Simulator - Roblox

If you do not want to play it, just tell me what a simulator needs.

Simulators are ALL over the place nowadays. I’m not a huge fan of them, but for me, a simulator should have/do the following in order for me to be interested:

  • Have an original idea; I don’t want the simulator to have a similarity to a different simulator I’ve played.
  • Keep me entertained - make it hard to finish the game, or have countless things to do in the game
  • Good design, e.g. maps, UIs, tools
  • Interactive - I don’t want to play the simulator by myself without any interaction with other players. Include trading, or some “battles” with other players.

That’s all I can think of at the moment, but if I come up with something else, I’ll edit my post to include it. Good luck! :happy2:

When it comes to attracting players, GFX designs (up-scale designs) for the thumbnails, advertisments, etc.

I’ve seen (no offense) alot of simulators with good thumbnails, advertisments and all but in-game the UI was horrible, overall gameplay was decent and many more. Yet players still played the game, i’m assuming they didn’t care but it also resulted in 40%+ dislikes.

So I’d say for attracting players this would be your main goal and along with other things as @DecodedMint Said

NUMBER ONE PRIORITY (in my opinion): make the premise fun. A lot of simulators have gameplay that consists of mindlessly clicking, and they are some of the worst games I’ve ever played. Make sure whatever the player is doing is actually enjoyable, and add some unlocks along the way (different items or powers) so it doesn’t get stale. If the premise isn’t fun, the game will feel like a chore.

“Brick Lifting Simulator?”

I’m really sorry, but in all honesty, the concept as a whole is not particularly interesting. If I saw an advertisement for a “Brick Lifting Simulator,” I wouldn’t think much of it.

Yeah, this reminded me of “Weight-Lifting Simulator.”

When I first entered the game, a player with a boombox was blaring some shockingly profane rap music. (I didn’t even know that stuff could go past moderators.) I felt rather uncomfortable listening to that, so I tried running away from the player until the sound died out, but to no avail. I then tried rejoining, but ended up in the same server. In the end, I muted my audio. I just wanted to point that out to let you know I was deterred by it, and if I wasn’t deliberately trying to experience your game, I would have just left altogether.

The issue I have with most simulators is how unbelievably unengaging they are. I just recently tested another user’s simulator game, and the issue was the same: I was mostly just spamming the left mouse button, with the only reason to move my character being to pick up the occasional coin.

I also felt the map served no real purpose. Like some simulators, the map might as well have been an empty baseplate: my character’s progress would have been the same. Give the map purpose!

In the end, I would just repeat the same suggestions made by @DecodedMint and @B_rnz.

Hope this helped!

Add variety within the game. Most simulators seem to have one thing that you can do, and you have no freedom in how you do it.
