What does it mean to be a Scripter?

I don’t know how to explain my current situation but I will do so to the best of my ability.

I have been scripting for almost a year now (more specifically 11 months), I still question what is expected from me learning scripting for this long. More in-depth into this is that whenever I search up something I want to do like a wall running system I get overwhelmed by how much is involved into making it, allot of angles and mathematics. This isn’t just about mathematics, it’s complex scripts overall. I also find myself using tutorials just to learn how to make a new type of script or forgetting how to make one, which I’m not sure if it’s the right thing to do. I really feel that I’m stuck at my current skill level.

  • When will I be able to reach this level of scripting like most others?
  • When will I know I’m able to get into some of these scripts and understand them and maybe even create some of my own?
  • When will I be skilled enough to be part of a games production?

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

I think with roblox you’ve just got o enjoy yourself, take it as a hobby. Don’t worry if you’re not as advanced as others yet just keep working on your own projects and by somewhen maybe you’ll need an advnaced task to finish it.

I mean whats the point in knowing metatables and bitwise operators if you’re never going to use them

Only time will tell, it depends on how much you practice, how often, how much you actually remember from all of that, and how good you are at logic and math.

It’s like they say, “You have to walk before you can run”. Once you learn what that kind of stuff does you’ll be ready. Only time will tell again.

Whenever you want! Just make sure to clarify how much you can actually do, don’t be like me and apply to an advanced scripter job when all you can do is make a part turn transparent. It’s never a good idea to say you can do when you can’t do it yet. P.S. I’m actually looking for a scripter, I can only offer a percentage of game revenue but it will be fun.

Scripting is something that takes a very long time to learn and is impossible to master, I saw someone who’s been learning for longer than I’ve lived. Never give up and I’m sure you’ll be able to do anything!

Ive been scripting for about the same time and i still use alot of tutorials so i dont see anything really wrong with it.

I dont really know I just started making my game because i was bored one day at the start of this year and now ive got friends helping me work on it so yeah.

I havent been scripting long enough to know the rest of the questions…

Well… I’ve been teaching myself scripting about 2 hours a day for 11 months straight. And I have worked on my own project (a Sword Simulator game) with working shops etc. and another project. And I discovered a few new tips along the way.

It does work and it does help me improve it’s just that I don’t know how it’s going to be possible for me to understand much of these other complex scripts, and how it’s going to come to the point were I can make my own. But yes I will carry on making my own projects.

I’m actually alright mathematically, a bit of an understatement I said about me there. But ye I guess as far as I can see it takes some patience, and continuous working. And as I said to Dandcx I am trying to put the most hours I can and devotion into this skill.
