What does !strict/!nonstrict mean?

I noticed in some of roblox’s core scripts and some plugins that they either have --!strict or --!nonstrict at the top, I also noticed a studio beta feature related to it. I’m confused as to what this means. I tried finding a post on this feature but I was unsuccessful, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
