What happened to communication with staff about moderation?

When someone uses #platform-feedback:moderation-review-requests, the only staff response they now get, at most, is a canned reply saying either that your items were approved or that the moderation action was placed correctly.
However, when you look at posts made in like 2019, you’ll see that staff was actively communicating with people, saying possible reasons why could the asset be moderated, or answering questions to whether would a specific thing be moderated or not.
When you try to say that you want further clarification on to why would it be declined, you ONLY get a response saying that “they cannot provide further clarification as to why would it be moderated.” Did the rules change? Are staff members now not allowed to provide reasons for moderation?
Saying that, I think that just saying that your asset moderation actions will not be lifted is not helpful. Most people would like to know what was wrong with the asset, to avoid further moderation actions.

So, what do you think may be the reason that we basically lost communication with staff about asset moderation? I don’t think it would be the staff being busy, as only Regulars can access ModReview. Also, DevForum moderators can actively communicate with people, and that is available to Members, not only Regulars.

I don’t see why canned responses are such a major thing. Sure, they aren’t responses that aren’t tailored to your request but they give the necessary information. If you get a response saying your items are approved or that the moderation was reasonable, then that’s your answer.

They probably have a reason why they can’t disclaim the reason as to why it was moderated. They’re not there to deliberately decline audio for no reason.

Sure, this is helpful information and I’d partly agree with the transparency needed to improve the understanding of things (e.g. in game descriptions, it doesn’t tell you what was inappropriate, etc). However, people could potentially (not 100% sure, it’s just the reason I could find for this) circumvent the system to avoid being moderated. I’d say that audio is probably automatically checked, rather than human intervention so it might be an issue if people could manipulate the audio to avoid it being flagged.

Note: I’m not a regular on the developer forum yet and I don’t have the experience of what you’re talking about. I just want to provide my own thoughts.

I guess one reason would be that there are so many people on the forum and not enough staff.
As of right now, there are 26 post approval members, 7 community sages. 12 developer engagement team members and 37 developer relations members, That may seem like a lot(82 people in total) but there are a few things to note:

  1. There are repeated people in there. Meaning that some people have gotten two of the badges and that gives the impression that there are a lot of people. So maybe we can make that number 70-75.

  2. There are thousands of people on the developer forum and 75: 100000(maybe less or more) isn’t a very good ratio for the staff members.

The thing is, there are so many people on the forum and not enough staff members. One possible solution could be to increase the number of staff but these people have to be trusted and as such it is probably a long process so it’s not possible for Roblox to do that.

There could have been an increase of people who are developing on the platform from 2019-2020. The staff members have a lot to do. That includes the Post approval and community sage positions who are volunteers and also want to work on their own things. Again, I don’t have any experience but I think it’s the case here.

Canned responses make it easier for the staff and I think it’s something good so that the staff don’t have as much of a workload on their hands.

That’s my take on the matter. Feel free to reply to me if you have any objections.

Well becoming a Regular nowadays is much more easier than before, furthermore more and more people are becoming one and being able to use the category.

It’s just best to use a canned response since there’s much more reviews to take care of. Additionally, what more is there to say except “moderation has been reversed”?

I’ve moved this to Forum Feedback since it’s not about development.

Would probably use the message inbox instead of the category going forward. We’re pitching to kill this category because it’s not useful at all (you literally only get back 1 of 2 messages). Doesn’t make sense to do this via public topics, it’s more of a helpdesk. Maybe you get more elaborate feedback in private too? Not sure on that last one.

I don’t actually think it’s more helpful to move it in private, there’s literally the same stuff as in the public forum. Saying that, I contacted staff in private about my moderated asset and never got “approved/not approved”, only a message saying that they cannot provide info about moderation actions. They never contacted me after that.

Staff don’t give individual advice because they don’t want to get in trouble if they accidentally give you bad advice that ends up getting yourself in trouble.

And by the way you shouldn’t really worry about MRR because it is muted by default and we weren’t meant to read it regularly anyways, much like Bulletin Board.

Did you message the correct inbox? Mod_Review_Requests is the group you want to message about assets needing review.

I messaged exactly them.

I’m not a regular however I hope that the category is removed as @buildthomas said it would be. Moderation reviews should be discussed in private in my opinion.
