Your reward is being here, not some badge.
Can we just stop this.
There are multiple reasons why this should not and will not ever happen, despite the occasional user bringing back this debate.
- Most of the community are against the idea as it stands
- Roblox are against the idea, and any elitist idea along these lines
- The forum is no longer a ‘status symbol’ as it may have been 3-4 years ago, it’s a developer forum- it’s in the name.
- There’s literally no valid reason for it- if you want to self-validate, then go out there and do something self-validating. A hat won’t change your achievement.
Well , I edited the post just now and mentioned all the points I don’t want to repeat . Still think we should get a name tag or something but since everyone is against this apparently it won’t happen so after all of this , thanks everyone for your opinions , case closed.
Holy mother of arguments
This has already been discussed before, it’d be best if @Lilly_S just merge it with an older post.
Mark this as solved.
'Nuff said.
Jesus - if this ain’t the most controversial post on the devforums.
While a hat would be cool enough and all, everyone did their point on why it won’t be implemented: we don’t want new developers to feel inferior to us.
Not necessarily. People with bad moderation history can improve over time. The other way around, good people can become worse and worse.
1st: Developer Forum membership doesn’t imply you are going to get more followers. That is up to the work you produce.
There are many community ran developer groups, such as aspireRBXDEV and Hidden Developers. They usually tend to promote work based on it’s quality. If you have said quality work, it’s a plus for you. You build your reputation that way.
I had around ~95 followers on Twitter by the time I joined the developer forum, and the counter didn’t bump to 200 or 300. In fact, I’m currently stuck at 133.
2nd: Usually, and unless you get around popular games with your badge, one would need to stop by your profile and actually notice your membership. In all cases, most of players are just there to play. If anything, you’d get more pointless friend requests, or their interest on you would be forgotten over time.
The DevForum group was created with the support of the Developer Relations (at least I think so). It isn’t official because:
We are lucky enough that there is an active engagement from developer relations. This is the closest to official we can get. In all cases, the non-believers can simply check your devforum profile and verify that the trust level is “Member”. Also, not every member is in said group (either by option or due to the group limit imposed to their accounts).
Can agree with you , changed my mind about the hat/badge as it’s not necessary anymore , but it would be cool to have one.
Respect. It’s hard to change your mind on subjects and announce it publicly.
Thanks !
We already have a special/private forum. I think we are fine.
Yeah , I don’t think we need it for now.
UPDATE: I have one more thing to be cleared out that I am thinking of , if you go to the catalog or roblox’s inventory , you can clearly see there is a QA testers top hat and uniform , so my point is , why not have a top hat too?
The devforum is a community of developers, with the purpose of sharing knowledge. Having a hat for members would only create a sense of elitism, and like I mentioned before we are a community not a status. Being here should be more than good enough, there is literally no purpose for a hat other than to feel good about yourself.
The QA Testers are people who, as in the name, spend their precious time testing and looking for bugs not only in Roblox events, but games created by the community itself, for little to no physical reward other than getting to play a part in the release of games that lots of people will enjoy. So if anything, yes, they deserve a hat.
There is already a group which you have the option to join, but it isn’t a trophy to be waved around. It doesn’t show your skill as a developer or how trustworthy you are; you do.
